    Western Bulldogs- General News/Articles/Twitter Updates

    Thanks for the idea Bert

    First up.

    StevoHeraldSun Mark Stevens
Reports that Dahlhaus may be forced back on to rookie list at Dogs after Roos game overblown. Won't happen.

@StevoHeraldSun So was Barlow the halfseason upgrade and Dahlhaus the replacement for Tom HIll? If so, is anyone else likely to be LTI?

@divvydan there is likely to be another player put on LTI

Unsure who it is as yet.

    Current Injury list:

    Ryan Hargrave (foot) 1-2 weeks
    Brodie Moles (shoulder) 1-2 weeks
    Ayce Cordy (back soreness) test
    Tom Hill (foot) 1 week
    Ed Barlow (finger) test

Pleasing that Dahlhaus should stay on the main list.

For someone who's only played a small number of games, he's proving to be one of the more important players in the line-up. So many times against Carlton he'd be either directly involved in a goal, or put pressure on the opposition that led to a goal. One of my favourites already.

From the WB team announcement video. No changes expected if Reid comes up, if he doesn't, expect one of Addison/Stack to come in for him.

    http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/injury-woes-blunt-bulldogs-bite-20110720-1howa.html

THE Western Bulldogs' bid to sustain a pulse in their stop-start season has suffered a critical blow, with playmaking defender Bob Murphy to miss Saturday's must-win game against Sydney with a groin injury. The 29-year-old strained an adductor muscle in last Sunday's loss to North Melbourne, and while the Bulldogs are confident he will be fit to return against West Coast in round 19, they will tackle the Swans in the demanding confines of the SCG without their most dangerous ball user.

The Dogs yesterday drew a line through Brodie Moles's season, sending the former rookie for a shoulder reconstruction. With first-year forward Tom Hill returning from long-term injury purgatory, Moles's misfortune will at least allow the impressive Luke Dahlhaus to remain on the senior list.

WESTERN Bulldogs president David Smorgon says the club won't go after an experienced player to help patch up its forward line woes.
Speaking on Melbourne radio station SEN on Tuesday morning, Smorgon admitted 2012 had been a disappointing one from a football perspective.

But he defended the Bulldogs' off-field performance, saying the club was on track to post its sixth consecutive profit.

On the subject of recruiting, Smorgon said senior coach Brendan McCartney was intent on developing players from within, even if it meant short-term pain.

He all but ruled out chasing an established goalkicker, an area the team has struggled in this year following the retirement of Barry Hall.

"It's not a question of money, it's a question of breeding our own," Smorgon said.

"We've had goes at bringing in established players in the past, and they can do a job for you, but it does come at some cost.

"'Macca' (McCartney) is very, very strong on developing your own players.

"It may take a bit longer, but like they did down at Geelong and like they've done elsewhere, it's a recipe that's worked in the past and I think that's his attitude.

"That doesn't mean to say that we wouldn't be looking for some other players that may add to our list, because there's other gaps in our list at the moment that are pretty obvious to see.

"We've got great confidence that [the list management and recruiting team] will make the right calls over the summer."

Big-name recruits to the Bulldogs have had mixed success in recent years.

Former Brisbane Lions midfielder Jason Akermanis joined the club ahead of the 2007 season and performed solidly in 77 senior games.

But he was sacked during 2010 after falling foul of his teammates for his outspoken ways.

Hall played 39 games in his two years with the Bulldogs, booting 135 goals.

Smorgon admitted the Bulldogs' membership and attendances had dipped in 2012, but said the club was still out-performing a number of others.

"We, unlike a lot of clubs, have had five years of consecutive profit, and we're aiming for another profit," he said.

"As everyone knows, we've just finished the Whitten Oval redevelopment.

"We are working very hard and gaining traction in the western region, which is in conjunction with the AFL.

"We're short of nothing in terms of resources.

"Yes, we don't have all of the resources that some of the bigger clubs have, but we have no excuse in terms of our resources."

But he said the club's on-field results had not met expectation.

"The ladder doesn't tell fibs, and we're having a disappointing year," the long-time Bulldogs president said.

"We started off at the beginning of the year hopeful that we would be very competitive."

He blamed injuries to senior players such as Adam Cooney, Tom Williams and Dale Morris, and a slow transition to a new game style from younger types.

"A lot of our younger blokes that have been exposed over the last year or two have simply not yet adapted to the way that 'Macca' wants them to play football.

"[Liam] Jones, [Ayce] Cordy, [Christian] Howard, [Jordan] Roughead, [Easton] Wood, I could keep going.

"Guys that have shown a lot of ability have just not yet stepped up."

WESTERN Bulldogs veterans Ryan Hargrave and Lindsay Gilbee will announce their retirements on Tuesday.

The two 200-game defenders informed their teammates of their decision late last week.

The Bulldogs are still working through the best way to provide a fitting farewell for the popular pair, with Hargrave serving a one-match suspension on the weekend and Gilbee too sore to play either of the Dogs' remaining two games.

James Mulligan has also retired (would've been delisted) and Andrew Hooper has been delisted.

Edit: Not listed there but also have read that Moles has been delisted too.

Confirmation on Moles being delisted and now Djerrkura has decided to retire as well.

All up that means 6 players so far have been removed from the primary list (Gilbee and Hargrave were vet list but there are others that can go there).

Also appears Minson is about to re-sign for 2 more years.

    http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/we...6/default.aspx

The Western Bulldogs today announced that they will field a stand-alone VFL team, from 2014.
The Bulldogs and Williamstown Football Club have agreed, in consultation with AFL Victoria, to bring forward the terms of the current alignment agreement between the two clubs by one year. This means the agreement will end at the end of 2013 rather than 2014.

Garlick indicated that the intention was to play matches at Whitten Oval as well as throughout the region to reinforce the Club's standing as the team of Melbourne's West, the Bulldogs' heartland.

That is interesting 2 key forwards for the Dogs, Panos highly rated for South Australia in the Under 18 champonships - surely the Dogs should draft a mature key forward if one is in available to help out their forwardline.

Some mail going around the the WB are really trying hard to get Jack Martin in the mini-draft in a trade that might also land them Jed Anderson. Would cost picks 5 and 6 but WB might also get back a first round pick.

There was talk of it being a three way trade involving Richmond as well

    GWS gain picks 5 & 6

WBD gain mini draft pick 3 + Jed Anderson & pick 9

    Rich gain Dom Tyson.

Richmond pulling a hiest & a half if true.

    Re: General News/Articles/Twitter Updates

I think WB are gaining greatly too. Martin is worth far more than pick 5, and Anderson + 9 is worth more than pick 6. GWS end up with picks 5 and 6 for Tyson effectively, although lose opportunity to get perhaps a pick 2 or 4 from GC/Melb instead of 5 and 6 and they lose the rights to Anderson.
