Thoughts on the Australian team being unchanged?

I wish Katich was fit to play, enjoy watching him knock up decent numbers consistenly.
Hughes looks out of his depth in the Aus team, lucky to be given the another chance after what was a pretty poor performance in the last test.
Hauritz has been in good form recently and after taking that ripper catch from Youseff thought his injury might stop him.. clearly not. Dont think the thumb will stop him taking wickets down at Hobart.

    Re: Cricket

I think it's a good move. Stability is needed plus now that we have won the series, those who are under some pressure to perform might relax somewhat and hopefully score some runs or take a few wickets.

And speaking of wickets, I can't fault Siddle for his efforts since getting the baggy green, but I think he needs to lift his game though and become a more potent wicket taker.

    Re: Cricket

Apparently Shahid Afridi will be returning to the Pakistan side for the third test. Thought he'd given up tests but seems not. Shaun Tait mentioned it in an interview last night.
Fair spewing koz I was pretty keen to go see S.A in the Big bash at Adelaide oval on Tuesday night and would have been good to see him playing.
Oh well should make the third test a little bit more interesting seeing as though we already have the series wrapped up!

    Re: Cricket

I went to the second day of the Boxing day test, wasn't that good cricket (very boring Australian bowling session) but it was enjoyable watching a streaker run onto the field and also sitting close to Bay13 and watching all the punch-ons between the bogans and cops.

In terms of the Australian line-up the only player I think she be booted is Marcus North, he is a slow scorer and offers very little excitement to the Australian team and his poor form of recent dates dictates his deserving eviction.

Agree with this completely. North is very lucky to have kept his spot, I thought they would of given George Bailey a chance on his home track. We have already won the series, need to get some young talent into the batting order. Ponting, Hussey & Katich are in their mid 30's so we need to start planning for the future.

    Re: Cricket

I think the selectors will give North one more chance in Hobart but if he doesn't make many runs done there he will get the boot for the next series. The ideal replacement strategy imo is to keep Hughes as an opener, drop Katich down to three and Ponting to 4, and Hussey goes to No.6.

Yeah that sounds pretty logical, any idea what Katich is like as a number 3 batter I havn't seen him play there very often? I also reckon giving Ponting a bit of a change by dropping him to number 4 might be a good idea because he looks all at sea, he is seriously lacking of some serious confidence and nothing else seems to be working.

Keep Katich at the top of the order and Hussey not so far from the bottom. We saw from the last test that Hussey can last the innings so it would be better to have him batting from earlier on. Hughes can bat lower down the order because hes going to go out early anyway I don't really rate him. Since South Africa he has struggled to show he can make it at the International level.

    Re: Cricket

Im a fan of the Katich/Watto opening partnership, and dont really want to see it broken up. Hughes is definitely next in line, but Kato offers some stability to the top end. Hughes still has a fairly suspect technique, and until he fixes it I cant see him opening. If North gets dropped, I wouldnt mind seeing Tim Paine get a gig at number 5, with Huss and number 6 and Hads at 7. Paine batted really well when Hads was injured, and I think he can make it as a specialist batter for now. Plus once Hads moves on Paine will be a lot better equipped to step straight in (no nerves, knows the team).

Anyone know when Callum Ferguson is back from his knee injury? He was also batting really well up until it happened, would like to see him as a long term replacement for Hussey.

    Re: Cricket

Im getting sick of siddle - he got a couple of wickets in the first innings, but geez, he has got like 6 wickets in the last 5 matches.

North is also struggling big time only averaged 20ish over the summer.

My preferred starting 11 for next series played is:

    Katich
    Hughes
    Ponting
    Clarke
    Watson
    Hussey
    Haddin
    Johnson
    Hauritz
    Bollinger
    Hilfenhaus

I think that that is an incredibly strong lineup, with very few weak spots, if any. I think we need to get hughes into that opening spot ASAP - I think that if they are to drop hussey/north before next years ashes, then he has to be next in line and he needs to get some more experience playing at this level before the big series. Just my thoughts.

^ We like Siddle cause hes a Victorian, dadadadadadadadada.

Anyways I went to the Vic v Tasy big bash match, we sat on top of Bay13 and we saw the most unbelievable thing, a chick getting bashed by 5 coppers, they had her in a head lock and she was pulling their hair, I didn't know who to feel sorry for. :?

Hodge and Paine are both superstars and its an absolute blight on the game that none of them are in a national team.

Geez the Pakis have made this series a bit of a drag.. nothing worse than one sided games from a viewers perspective.

Yeah I know, in the SCG test he was on 15 when haddin came in and the Aussies needed quick runs so I thought both would go for it. My Uncle then said to me he would put 10 dollars that haddin reaches 20 before North with odds of 4-1 with me. I thought North was already settled and Haddin had just came in so surely North would get there first? No, Haddin gets to 30 before North even gets to 20. Was trying to be so careful he didnt get out even though quick runs were needed.
