    Excel help

    Hey guys,

I've got a uni assignment due on Monday, and I need to add error bars to a graph, however the data is in the same series and I need to add a different error bar to each part of the graph.

Basically, I'm comparing the percentage cover of different types of algae in different regions, and just can't get the thing to work properly.

I can graph it this way and get the graph formatted properly, but have the error bars wrong (5.5 sterror when you have a value of 3.4 is a problem, I believe )

Or I can graph it this way and get the error bars correct, but lose the formatting.

Anyone know how to fix it?

This is the data if it helps:

    Cheers

    Re: Excel help

I am on a computer that doesn't have the latest excel so I cant test it out. However, at work I remember having this problem.

From memory, you cant use the summarised data that you have used, i.e. from one data point or from a cell that has the "average" formula. You have create the graph using the full data set and either when creating the graph or after it is created you will be able to edit it and it will calculate the std for each column individually.

That is just from memory though.

think Juppy's suggestion will work. If it doesnt, happy to help: my excel skills are rusty, but I could do it in a couple of minutes in SPSS, you would need to paste the graph in as picture if you dont have SPSS which shouldnt be a problem, and I'd need the file.
