    Cyril Rioli

Fantasy Profile: One of the most 'delicious' prospects for the 2011 season, Rioli had been expected to take up a midfield role in 2010 before an interrupted preseason and suggestions of OP scrapped that idea. Despite this, Rioli did still manage to improve in both competitions, by 10pts/game in DT and 15pts/game in SC, bringing him now to the edge of the keeper zone. Rioli's ability to influence games, even when having a fairly poor game, makes him an excellent candidate for SC, regardless of the position he plays. With Peterson and Hooper having left the club in the offseason, will Rioli still be moved into the midfield, or will his role stay as predominately a forward, with occasional midfield spells when needed?

FFC Verdict: Watch his role very closely. Will almost certainly be a SC keeper but with Franklin, Chapman, Pavlich etc all having the bye in the same round, one might have to miss out from your starting team. Personally, it wouldn't be Rioli I leave out.

Was mentioned that he was injured today. Last year he was injured every 3 weeks which lowered his scores but he nearly always got up to play the following week. I guess the bye comes at perfect time. Will he return in a fortnight?

Nah it's a hammy, with his history of hammy injuries will miss around 3 weeks after the bye. I would expect the hawks will use him as just a fwd pocket from now on. It seems his body cannot play midfield.

Should mean Burgoyne will get more midfield time if Rioli gets moved back forward

Yeah that would be great news, Burgoyne looking like a fail pick so far, playing far too much as a forward.

    Re: Cyril Rioli

    From Sewell inteview today:

Livewire forward Cyril Rioli, who hurt his hamstring against Geelong on Easter Tuesday, jogged laps as his teammates trained and appeared to be moving freely.

But Sewell said the club won't gamble on the fitness of such a crucial player.

"He did a little bit today, but he's the sort of guy we certainly won't be risking," Sewell said.

"Fingers crossed he can do a little bit more later in the week, and whether he comes up or not we can only hope."

If I can read between the lines I recon he's gona miss!

I think he is very similar to Higgins at the moment and if you want to ride it out with both of them and if they both miss this week surely they should be right for next Round it just depends on how they score and if you think they can deliver good scores from here on.

Strain to keep Cyril Rioli out of clash with Collingwood

HAWTHORN star Cyril Rioli will miss his side’s blockbuster clash with Collingwood on Sunday with a hamstring injury.
Captain Luke Hodge said today Rioli’s injury was not serious, but bad enough to keep the small forward out of the clash of second versus third at the MCG.

"It’s not a bad hammy, it’s only a strain. He’s done it a few times," Hodge said.

    "They’ll re-assess it this week, but I’d say he’ll be short-term - only a couple of games."

Must say I am rather interested in Cyril for 2012. Really see him as being a player who has all the tools to be a 100+ player, the only, albeit major issue, is those dodgy hammies. What are the thoughts of the FFC community?

    Re: Cyril Rioli (Profiled)

Pretty much sums it up Buddy, if it wasn't for injuries and maybe a little bit of discipline then he'd be SC gold and DT considerable. The problem is his best scoring role seems to be untenable with his hammies so will always tease.

Chappy school of thought though, start with him or not go him, if he stays healthy, winner, if he gets injured you expected it and planned for it anyway!
