    Re: Off-Season Movement

Working out what Joe Daniher is worth is one of the more interesting aspects of this trade period.

Pros: 25yo, over 4 full seasons after his initial debut year he went from 28 goals to 34, 43 and then 65, in a team that was okay but never had a great midfield. 200cm and has great hands, which makes him very difficult to contain. Contracted for next year.

Cons: Has had OP for the past two years, only playing 11 matches. Will be a RFA at the end of next year. Seems like he doesn't want to be there anymore.

Unknown: Likelihood of returning to his physical best. If the OP means his kicking distance drops by 5m, then that will affect his goal kicking significantly. No mention of any contract offer from Sydney.

I'd like to think he'll cost something in the pick 15 range. He's basically a slightly more proven but possibly even more broken version of Patton, who will likely cost a 3rd. I've got no interest in him at a 5 and 9 type of cost that is being spread around as the starting price. It's such a hard one as he does kind of fit in a way but at the same time he's a bad fit. I'd much rather we spend that kind of money on a guy like Hill, for example, who would represent a genuine need.

It's going to be interesting, Essendon are obviously handling the media well as they've got everyone pushing the 5+9 narrative to try and set his value. If that's the asking price we should just walk away, if he was fit then maybe, but he's damaged goods who could possibly never get back to anything and our medical staff has shown nothing as far as handling this kind of thing either, our last couple of seasons have been absolute train wrecks in the medical department.

Trade paperwork officially lodged. The Gold Coast SUNS made an offer to Restricted Free Agent Brandon Ellis (Richmond). Richmond are now in the three-day period where the club can decide whether to match the offer or not. The three-day period ends 3pm AEDT, Monday October 7.

Papley requests trade back to Melbourne. Sydney say he is contracted but will listen to offers. Sydney also have interest in Riley Knight and Lewis Taylor. Likely that any trade for Papley will be used for Daniher.

    Re: Off-Season Movement

The Tim Kelly deal could be agreed upon as soon as tomorrow, with the Eagles and Cats reportedly having a deal done in principle.

Telstra AFL Trade Radio’s Mitch Cleary is reporting that the two have made significant process.

The Cats will receive picks 14, 24 and West Coast’s 2020 first-round selection.

In return, West Coast will get Kelly and something else as part of a later swap of selections.

“The landmark deal for Kelly has been agreed to in-principle by Geelong and West Coast and could go through as soon as tomorrow,” Cleary said.

“I expect the later swap of picks will leave the Cats with a later pick in the second round which could unlock the deal for Jack Steven.”

Excited to see Kelly in WCE colours.

NN - Yeo - Shuey - Kelly centre square combo next year will be very dynamic/ exciting times ahead.

    Re: Off-Season Movement

Hopefully it goes through pretty early so all the other trades can start to get worked out. Need this to drop for Geelong to go for Steven, which then allows Stk to go for Jones, which should free up Syd to do the Papley/Daniher trades etc.

    Re: Off-Season Movement

I thought WCE were overpaying but 14,24 and future 1st are basically two late 1st's and a 2nd round. 14+Future 1st is probably equivalent to Pick 6-7 or something so Pick 7+24 seems much more reasonable.

Of course the risk is WCE somehow miss the 8, then it's costly.

Pick 37 comes from Essendon but it's not clear how, so I expect some sort of deal involving that to come out soon.

Ess gave up 37, 52 for 33,57. Cats downgrade 33 to 37, Eagles upgrade 57 to 52 as part of the deal.

    Good business from Ess really.
