    Re: Round 8 Teams

Been lots of rain in Ballarat (50+mm) over the past 18hrs. Should be clearing up this evening but depending on how good the drainage is at Mars Stadium, the WB v Bris game tomorrow could still be a little soft underfoot.

Can only think that they both "could" play but they'll only risk one at most so will both have fitness tests and whoever is ahead plays.

    Still, textbook Scott wankery.

    Re: Round 8 Teams

RANT (because there is nowhere else to stick it). Dane Rampe climbs and deliberately shakes the goal post when Myers was shooting for goal to win the game last night. Free kick should have been awarded on the goal line. Absolute howler by the umpires has cost us that game. And it’s not like the ump didn’t see it. He ran in and asked him to get down. Let’s wait for the AFL try to justify this one. If they admit that the ump got it wrong (which they have to) they are in effect saying Essendon should have won the game. No two ways about it. The final siren had gone so there was nothing else to happen. So f***ed up

I bet they'll find a way to say it was the right non call as they do for most wrong calls.

I believe they already came out and said the ump saying "down, down" was sufficient

I'm a little torn on this one, because it clearly had no effect on the match, but rules are rules. I feel it is a bit common sense not to award a free here, but yes to the letter of the law it would have to be a free (have never seen it paid though)

One think we can all agree on, what the hell was Rampe thinking

A bit like paying a 50 against Brad Hill last week for throwing some grass. A bit of common sense was sufficient. To the letter of the law a free, of course. In a game with under 10 goals the umps made sure they impacted the scoreboard.

It’s irrelevant whether it affects the play so they either have to say it was wrong or somehow reinvent history and claim that Rampe was not climbing the post. Given the AFL’s form on engineering outcomes my money is on the latter

Absolutely should have been a free kick. You do some dumb shit like that you deserve to have it paid against you. Regardless of the state of the game. And that was truly idiotic.

It is kind of relevant because they rightly or wrongly 'let things go' late in matches.

I understand the frustration but we all know it didn't affect Myers kick or the match in any way.

But yes the AFL either way would always say it's the right call, which is certainly annoying

    Re: Round 8 Teams

The interesting part is the rule is only for intentionally shaking the post rather than climbing it so you could actually say that the umpire is correct in not calling it given he was clearly climbing the post with intent rather than shaking it.

I wouldn't care either way, it's stupid and the Swans winning just makes Longmire more likely to have a job next year so I wouldn't have cared one iota if they'd paid it and it cost us the game, the way the media/Swans HQ seem to love Horse we basically need like a 3 win season for him to get canned is my feeling so every win hurts us severely long term as the longer he is our coach the faster we're on the path to being where Carlton have been for the last decade...

I thought the umpires had a total mare all night to be fair, the non-throw on Heeney that led to a Swans goal, the horrific "front on contact" from the side on a perfect spoil by O'Riordan which led to a Bombers goal were among a whole bunch of other bad calls/non-calls. Normally I say the rules are the problem with the umpiring in this sport but last night they just had a mare. To be fair I don't really think the outcome was impacted, it was one of those "that's a shocking decision" regardless of colours games for me and they fell about as close to 50/50 as it could, somehow this is the one getting talked about even though it's probably not even in the top 20 bad decisions last night given that the rule is actually very grey on the whole climbing the post thing.

"We will reassess his progress tomorrow and plan his week’s training from there.

"We expect him to make sufficient progress to be available for next week’s game.”

    Re: Round 8 Teams

Pretty embarrassing from bombers fan that the biggest talking point after the game is an irrelevant umpires non-call rather than us losing AGAIN to the 18th placed team. How many years in a row now are we in a position to go for the top 8 and we've lost to the 18th place Carlton/Brisbane/Fremantle, and now Sydney.
