    Re: JLT Series 2019

Connor Blakely and Stephen Hill also missing from Freo midfield, along with Brad Hill getting a calf injury early (his TOG surprised me I assume he sat in a forward pocket). 6 day break from 40+ degrees also a factor in the fatigue. WC way classier though.

My take away from Freo's two games is that we can't afford to not have one of Fyfe, Mundy or Walter in the centre bounces. I think all 3 are viable (Fyfe's health a small concern).

My take away from Freo in general is there is something wrong with our S&C or training to have so many soft tissue injuries - a concern for Walters, Hills and a number of others who are having persistent issues in this area.

Great post as usual @Wogitalia - other main guy missing for WCE was Cripps who had his career best year last season.

Fatigue was certainly a factor as Nothing mentioned, very noticeable how much Freo dropped off in the 2nd half - skill levels especially, many bad turnovers.

Can I ask @Nothing , @hedgehog & @Notorious_29 - why isn't Cerra playing midfield, especially with Fyfe out? Last year he looked really classy to me, has the composure & skill level to be an A grade midfielder in my opinion.

Ken Hinkley you magnificent bastard! :-

Ken Hinkley has confirmed today that Port Adelaide will most likely have four debutants for their Round 1 clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

I think they just don't want to overload him and probably want to work on his defensive aspects which is why he's playing in defense. Similar to Sydney with Mills. They also really need some class from behind the ball, one of the most underrated aspects of the Eagles last year was Jetta going into defense and adding an extra rebounder that just alleviated the pressure/reliance on Hurn and Gov. Their skills actually didn't drop off that much to me, they were bad from the start, but the pressure fell off the face of the planet. Hopefully for Freo it was just "we've done what we came here for now lets dial it back and avoid injury" but that remains to be seen!

Yeah will be interesting to see what they do, Fyfe and Mundy probably better positioned as they've been playing as KPF the past couple of years but that problem is kind of solved (got the replacements, they just need to perform). Walters magic on the ground is still pretty damn useful for them.

The trick will now be picking the ones who hold their spots as senior guys return. Drew is the most physically ready of the 4 for mine but he's also the most similar to Wines, so that's probably his window to demand a spot regardless of Wines (he looks good enough, fwiw). Rozee is the one most obviously suited to a small forward role so that's a positive for him but he'll be super inconsistent and costs a lot more. Duursma on the wing is holding the fort for Hartlett/Broadbent, he probably gets a crack to win a spot but I reckon he's got the least leeway to start slow. Butters is kind of the jack of all trades who does a bit of everything the others do in each area which may bode well as versatility is normally a positive.

Good start to the rookie stocks though so can't complain on that front!

Rookie summary for SC. An adjusted score applies if less than 60%TOG was played and adjusts to an assumed 85%TOG.

This is all JLT players under $250k ranked by a notional points upside based on starting price

Ross Lyon likes to play his rookies out of postition thats a fact. He makes them earn that primary role over many years whilst these high draft picks slowly lose faith in any potential they had whilst WAFL scrubs who train hard and finish high in the time trials are preferred in these said primary roles.

But seriously.... I don't think Ross has ever taken preseason games properly, likes to experiment with certain players. As Wogi said probably thinks we need a little more polish in defence. It's anyones guess where he plays come round 1.

I feel like Sheed needs to be at least mentioned.

Finals series 2018 went 130, 105, 116 SC. JLT scores of 144 and 134 SC.

The man is on fire, some guys bloom late right? Has absolutely no scoring history to be confident with but may finally be motivated to take the next step?

I'm very tempted but the thing that stops me is Brouch is only 20k more. Mind you, Brouch has never hit premium levels.

    Re: JLT Series 2019

Doesn't tackle enough, feel like he's bait.

He's had 40 and 39 touches with 1 tackle each game. Last year he had just 5 out of 20 games with 3+ tackles with a max of 5. I doubt there would be many premium midfielders that put up premium numbers averaging 2-3 tackles a game.

Newman putting up a Carlton low for DT is a huge concern for mine. I've had him locked away since the Docherty knee but it's hard to back a guy in who plays 76% TOG and scores just 29 DT. The issue is it's not like there are a whole heap of options if you've already got Smith/Roberton. I do like Milera but I'm already pretty Crows heavy and his game should probably be more suited to SC over DT.
