GC definitely looking in trouble if May leaves. Given they're almost certain to receive a top 3 pick for him next year as free agency compensation, you'd think it'd take a ludicrous offer to move him unless he walks out on the club.

Swans have delisted Alex Johnson He wanted to play on. He was offered an off field role but didnít want it
Surprised he didn't take the off filed, can't see anyone picking him up, guess depends on what sort of role it was.

WEST Coast's plans for the expected departure of Scott Lycett have intensified, putting contracted St Kilda ruckman Tom Hickey through a medical screening.

AFL.com.au understands Hickey, who is being courted by the Eagles with a multi-year offer, was tested prior to the Saints' best and fairest count and leaving for end-of-season holidays.

With Lycett destined to request a move to Port Adelaide and injured No.1 big man Nic Naitanui to miss 2019, the Eagles are preparing to bring in reinforcements.

Having already met with Western Bulldogs free agent Jordan Roughead, Hickey's acquisition would provide a boost to a club that consistently plays duel ruckmen.

With Naitanui to return in 2020 as a 30-year-old, he is seen to be a ruckman capable of playing no more than 60 per cent time on ground.

Following Naitanui's season-ending ACL in round 17, Nathan Vardy has played seven consecutive matches with Lycett and will line up in Saturday's preliminary final against Melbourne.

Hickey remains contracted at Moorabbin until the end of 2019, however is believed to be open to a move to a third club, having started his career at Gold Coast.

A move for the 27-year-old across the Nullarbor would need to involve a trade, with the Eagles holding two second-round picks that could appeal to the Saints.

Including their existing second-round pick, the Eagles collected Gold Coast's second-round selection (currently No.20) as part of a swap that saw them lose their 2018 first-round pick last year.

Hickey re-signed on a healthy two-year extension ahead of the 2017 season, having played 20 matches in 2016 as the Saints narrowly missed finals.

Playing the first four matches of the 2017 season, the Queenslander then lost his spot to Billy Longer, only managing one more senior game for the year.

Hickey played the first game in the VFL in 2018 before stringing nine consecutive games together in Alan Richardson's side, only to be dropped after round 12.

Playing four more matches from rounds 17-20, Hickey sustained a hamstring injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Lycett's pending departure is set to trigger a wave of action in ruckmen across the competition.

With Roughead and Hickey in discussions with the Eagles, a Hickey move will leave the Saints needing support for uncontracted pair Billy Longer and Lewis Pierce.

Re: 2018 AFL Free Agency/Draft/List Changes

Hickey certainly covers the more immediate need of a #1 ruck for next season, compared to Lobb/Roughy. Don't think he and Nic Nat could play in the same team though come 2020, unless Nic Nat ends up being a fwd first and ruckman second as Hickey is purely a ruckman. Hickey leaving St Kilda also opens up the potential for a new #1 there, possibly even a fantasy relevant option if it's the right person.

Re: 2018 AFL Free Agency/Draft/List Changes

I reckon that's a good pick-up for West Coast. Their player development is significantly better than St Kilda's recently and I'd back him to improve considerably under Simpson in 2019.

Not entirely sure why NicNat has been written off for the whole of 2019, unless I've missed a complication already?

Another tricky issue is that he's contracted, and WC will have 3x juicy picks in the 20-25 range, I'd imagine St Kilda will try and package him up with a later pick to get one of those which would be an annoying price to pay for a player arguably outside the best 22 from a bottom 4 team. Out of contract, he'd be exactly the type to get sold for a nothing pick but clubs don't tend to be as charitable with their contracted players.

Big salary cap pressure at GWS with Finlayson told that it might be in his best interest to explore options elsewhere. He's contracted for next year but I guess GWS are looking to free up as much as possible.

Lincoln McCarthy met with the club today and advised that he would like to continue his career with the Brisbane Lions. As such the club will meet with the Lions during trade period to explore a trade that is acceptable to both parties.
Probably the most notable part about this is that he's a close friend of Lachie Neale who has also been linked, at least unofficially, with a trade to Brisbane.

Swear he only signed a contract extension this year. Hard to fathom how a team is resigning guys, only to offload them a few months later, when they've cocked it up. Unless they've made sure everyone was leaving was contracted to get maximum value.

Yep, he signed a 2 year extension back in June, was from their academy and from a small town in the Riverina region so he should be on little money compared to most at GWS.

He was unrestricted too so Richmond couldn't force a trade. Given Richmond are likely to bring in Tom Lynch as a FA, it'll mean no compensation for Conca (currently he's an end of 2nd round compensation).

As expected, Dahlhaus has joined Geelong, compensation is a 2nd round pick, currently 25.
