    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

They had a trial run last night at Marvel Stadium with the new pick swaps etc. Apparently the computers either broke down or the connection did and everyone had to go home. Might be back to pen and paper tonight.

Rumours coming in about trading. One is that Richmond are trying to trade up to get Bailey Smith but only if WB trade 7 down to 11 with GWS hoping Smith will still be there, with GWS wanting Caldwell at 7 before Adelaide.

    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

A couple of fantasy relevant picks today for Fremantle IMO. Pick 32: Luke Valente and Pick 59: Brett Bewley.

Probably a bit early to tell but I'd say both are a good chance to play straight away. Bewley a mature ager also from Williamstown (25 disp, 4 tck per game).

    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

Swans draft seems the exact opposite as far as fantasy relevant, Blakey might be good enough but likely to at least start out playing a KP role if he does and fair premium priced would be a no no for mine but the rest are all fairly developmental sounding.

Interesting read about some of the decisions each club in the first round had and how things might have changed.

    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

Will just CTRL+C my post to this thread

Pick 1: Carlton - Josh Deluca
Pick 2: Gold Coast - Mitch Riordan
Pick 3: Melbourne - Kyle Dunkley
Pick 4: Sydney - Michael Knoll
Pick 5: North - Lachie Hosie
Pick 6: Bulldogs - Ryan Gardner
Pick 7: Essendon - Will Snelling
Pick 8: St Kilda - Jack Mayo
Pick 9: Port Adelaide - Cam Sutcliffe
    Pick 10: Hawthorn - PASS
    Pick 11: Fremantle - Dillon O’Reilly
    Pick 12: Adelaide - PASS
Pick 13: Richmond - Marlion Pickett
Pick 14: Collingwood - John Noble
Pick 15: Gold Coast - PASS
Pick 16: Sydney - Cody Hirst
    Pick 17: Bulldogs - PASS
    Pick 18: Essendon - PASS

Som ex-listed players, Deluca was at Fremantle, Gardner at Geelong, Snelling at Port, Sutcliffe the most notable at Fremantle.
Pickett an interesting pick, just did a finger injury on the weekend, expected to miss 8-10.
A few of the players are mature age (Deluca 23, I believe a few of the others are 27 etc)

Expect any of the potential ins to play at least some lower league (Deluca in VFL etc) except for someone like Sutcliffe who is already playing in Power's SANFL team etc. I think Gardner is already playing in Dogs VFL team too actually.

Sam Lowson being overlooked was the surprise, was touted as going at #1, ankle injury on the weekend may have affected, 23 years of age.

Swans went with a ruckman at #4, mentioned Naismith taking longer to recover. Might have thrown a spanner in the works for Essendon who many were expecting to take a ruck.

    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

Knoll has to be a chance if he is even moderately average in the ruck, Sinclair, as hard as he tries, has been absolute rubbish this year and has been totally annihilated in the ruck and it's a major reason Sydney are so bad right now.

    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

    Potential rookie options this year?

Josh Deluca: 23yo mid; 179 cm, 80kg so he's smallish inside mid. Averaging nearly 26disp, 5marks and over 5 tackles a game for Subiaco. Averaged nearly 28disp/game, 7 tackles and over 3 marks a game last year. Kicks around a goal every 2nd game. Was on Freo's list for 3 years and played 4 games with a 47 ave in dt/sc. Not expected to get a game within the next month as he'll have to adapt to Carlton's game plan and AFL level.

Mitch Riordan: 19yo mid; Considered a long-term selection. Chance for games late in the season.

Kyle Dunkley: 19yo mid/fwd: Long term prospect, likely to be played forward if at all.

Michael Knoll: 26yo ruck; 205cm, 103kg, plays for South Adelaide, previously with Box Hill. Developing ruckman. Some chance to get games with Naismith still out but given Reid's form, Sydney can only play one of him and Sinclair, so he'll have to get ahead of Sinclair.

Lachie Hosie: 22yo fwd; 189cm, Glenelg. Currently leads SANFL goal kicking board with 21 goals from 8 matches. Possibly competing with the likes of Wood and Zurhaar for a spot in the team. Might need one of them (likely Wood) to get injured to potentially get a game.

Ryan Gardner: 21yo kpp/utility; 197cm from Footscray, originally drafted by Geelong in 2015, but didn't play a game before being delisted at the end of last year. Can play at either end of the ground and has also rucked at VFL level. Might be one of the best chances to make an immediate impact given the lack of quality KPPs the WB have, the fact that he's been in the AFL system already and the fact that he plays with the WB VFL team already, so he should be familiar with the structures and training with many of the AFL players already.

Will Snelling: 21yo general mid; 175cm from Port Adelaide. Drafted by the Power at the end of 2015, he played 1 match in 2016, 66dt/64sc, and was delisted at the end of last year. Averaging 30 disp/game in 2019 and 9.6 tackles/game. Taking Devon Smith's place, it's as close to like for like as you can reasonably get. Will probably take time to work into Essendon's team but given he's been on an AFL list, like Gardner above, he should be a decent chance to get games. Potential to score very well at AFL level.

Jack Mayo: Another Jack at St Kilda. 19yo fwd; 192cm, 81kg. From Subiaco. Considered a long-term pick.

Cam Sutcliffe: 27yo defender/utility. Played around 100 games for Freo. Currently at Port Adelaide. 4 games last year for 54dt/52sc so might be awkwardly priced. Has to be considered a pick for now, although it's hard to see where he fits into the team. Most likely just cover for the rest of the season.

Dillon O'Rielly: 18yo kpp. 193cm, 80kg. Son of Stephen. Long term pick.

Marlion Pickett: 27yo mid, 184cm, 84kg. Swan Districts. Looks like a potential rookie option, although he broke his finger for the second time this season on the weekend, and had surgery, so could miss most of the rest of the season. Considered more of a dangerous mid than an accumulator. Might suit SC more. Perhaps a better option for next year given the injury.

John Noble: 22yo outside utility. 180cm, 72kg. Averaging 21.7 disp, 5.6m and 3.1t a game this season. Considered a long term pick.

Cody Hirst: 19yo mid. 178cm, plays for Eastern Rangers as an overage kid. Missed most of last year with injury. Very quick and agile. Averaging 23.8 disp/game this year. Sydney see him as a small forward/wing, probably more a long term option.

    Re: 2018 AFL Draft

    Mid season rookie positions/prices

    Pick 1: Carlton - Josh Deluca - Mid, $154,700
Pick 2: Gold Coast - Mitch Riordan - Mid, $102,400
    Pick 3: Melbourne - Kyle Dunkley - Mid, $102,400
    Pick 4: Sydney - Michael Knoll - Ruc, $102,400
    Pick 5: North - Lachie Hosie - Fwd, $102,400
    Pick 6: Bulldogs - Ryan Gardner - Fwd, $102,400
    Pick 7: Essendon - Will Snelling - Mid, $117,300
Pick 8: St Kilda - Jack Mayo - Fwd, $102,400
Pick 9: Port Adelaide - Cam Sutcliffe - Def, $199,500
    Pick 11: Fremantle - Dillon O’Reilly - Def/Fwd, $102,400
    Pick 13: Richmond - Marlion Pickett - Mid, $102,400
    Pick 14: Collingwood - John Noble - Mid, $102,400
    Pick 16: Sydney - Cody Hirst - Mid, $102,400

Bit of a pity that Gardner is Fwd only, thought he would be a good chance to get Fwd/Def. Snelling cheap enough to be a real option if Shiel is also out injured for some time.

If Sutcliffe gets a run, he’d be worth the premium.
