    Re: Round 4

Kind of tempted to give Dangerfield the C in at least one comp this weekend given it's against St.Kilda and will be played at Geelong.

Last 2 seasons at Geelong he's averaged 124.9 DT / 144.6 SC with a low of 107 DT / 111 SC last years low being 114 DT / 138 SC.

That said, bloody hard to consider removing it from Mitchell given he's averaging 147 DT / 154.6 SC and averaged 127 DT / 118.8 SC last year. Just expecting he'll have to put up a quiet one soon as his form has been insane so far this season. Also with another game at the G which is where he's played his first 3, hard to not back him again.

Think I'm back on the Mitchell camp

    Re: Round 4

Going to be very wet in Adelaide tonight.

Don't think there's much to be done rookie wise, but I am looking at playing Finlayson over Doedee in DT/AF. Expect it will be very hard to mark the ball. SC wise I have both and Doedee should be ok anyway if he's getting spoils.

    Re: Round 4

Crows vs Pies - Crows and Pies basically continued their form lines, Crows have been meek of late and the Pies have been ferocious and it really showed. Injuries are starting to stack but really that doesn't cover the lack of effort on the field, mostly from senior players, for the Crows. Would have brought back bad memories of GF day I imagine.

Pies - Were excellent, the smaller side is working a treat (shocking, I know) and they were just too ferocious and fast for the Crows who fell to pieces under the pressure and just had nothing going forward.

Sidebottom - Not sure I've ever seen Sloane pantsed that bad, Sidebottom not only shut him down but was dominant going the other way. Great game.

Treloar - Much more midfield time this week and put the runs on the board as a result.

Grundy - Domination, to be fair Jacobs was abysmal and pathetic, but Grundy took full advantage of his softness and just waxed, his follow up work was incredible. Basically playing like Kreuzer last year right now.

Pendles - Workmanlike from him. One of the few Pies who wasn't manic in his attack but just got the job done.

Stephenson - Started him last week, benched him this week did I... Played full forward essentially and kicked a bag, not a great role but a phenomenal result and great cash generation will come from it. Was super clean.

Murray - I can see why Horse would let him go and not play him given that he attacks the game and takes it on... Excellent game and his ratio easily could have been much better but for a few handballs that just bounced the wrong way and became clangers instead of effective intercept possessions (I counted 3).

Howe - Had a rare bad game as the Crows ultra tall forward line kept him a bit more accountable and the smaller guys did the intercept work in sloppy conditions... upgrade target acquired.

De Goey - Played pretty much permanent forward (releasing Treloar, imo) and thus is not a viable option just yet but one to watch, looked sharp and fit.

Thomas - Continues to be right on the edge of premium level with a good role, I'm still watching.

    Crows -
Were beaten in just every way, went with an ultra tall team in very wet conditions, had no answer for anything in the contest, didn't have a clue what to do going forward, they must have had a dozen out on the full kicks. Just looked completely rattled for pretty much the entire game bar a 5 minute patch where the umpires gave them two goals and Gibbs kicked a beauty for a 3rd and a bit of very late junk.

Seedsman - God his ratio was generous, it didn't feel like he hit a target all night, of those dozen out on the full I think he had 6 or 7 and was lucky not to have another two that the umpires missed where he just shinned it out. The positive is that even in wet conditions that don't suit his style at all he found a ton of the ball so anyone who took him can just cop and out of character butcher session and should take the positives more than that side of things from it.

Laird - Was the only real reason it wasn't a 100 point loss. His ratio feels cruel, basically he was sloppy early which unfortunately was the only time the Crows were in the game and thus he got punished by the momentum button harshly because he was pretty much perfect from halfway through the first, must have had close to 15 intercept possessions. Just brilliant and watching it even knowing his momentum was going to be harsh I thought he was going to be 150+.

CEY - Solid enough game in conditions that suit him but nothing special.

Gibbs - Was solid, one of the few Crows who broke even in his matchup.

Jacobs - Embarrassing for him. Was just annihilated but it was more that he offered zero effort than the actual result. If he was trying and Grundy had beaten him, that's one thing, but he just looked like he checked out about 2 minutes into the game and was just a giant witches hat from that point on. Two embarrassing games in a row for him, if the Crows had any kind of backup I'd be seriously thinking about sending him and the team a message that the kind of effort he has dished up will cost you.

McGovern - Very lucky not to kill himself with a ridiculously stupid head first attack on the ball that somehow was rewarded with a goal but he was the only winning forward for the Crows, which made their decision to throw him back for a while even more dumbfounding. He looked great.

Walker - Pathetic game from him. His only real contributions were stealing McGovern's aforementioned free kick and winning a 50m penalty for hitting Lynden Dunn in the head which while entertaining was hardly something to write home about. He was just far to busy trying to be a bully and instigate scuffles and far too uninterested in getting the ball or making a contest.

Doedee - He was solid enough without doing anything good. Didn't help that the Pies were basically able to handball and waltz through the middle before spotting up one out targets all game, basically with zero pressure up field he had no chance to intercept anything and mostly was playing with his hands tied behind his back in one out situations. This applies to all the Crows defenders to be honest.

Sloane - Just pathetic again. I don't think I've ever been so confused by a players complete and utter inability to deal with a tag. He's fast, fit, hard at it, agile and has a phenomenal work rate, that's basically the perfect profile I would design for someone who would beat a tag consistently, minus mental strength, and thus I have to question that area. If I was an opposition coach he's getting a hard tag every single week from here because he just wilts entirely under it, he might actually be getting worse at dealing with it, I mean last week against the Saints they just used him as a decoy, the Pies exploited that tactic ruthlessly. I don't know what the answer is for him, whether it's dropping him like the Saints did Dal Santo back in the day or what but they need to fix this issue, it cost them massively in the grand final last year and it's costing them right now, tonight he may as well have not been there. He's too good a player to be stopped completely so easily, it wasn't even a hard tag by any standards.

Jenkins - Just terrible. His contribution was basically a couple of terrible free kicks against.

Fogarty - Bad conditions, too tall team and terrible midfield effort made him basically irrelevant. His few things were actually pretty decent but not nearly enough.

    Re: Round 4

Sloane was pathetic, if his foot is that bad why I'd he playing? Offers us nothing st all. Seriously, those teams contemplating offering him 800k to a mill would surely have to second guess it at this rate as he he so very bad with a tag. 17 touches going at a team low 47% when he only had 3 or 4 kicks in those 17 touches...

Jacob's losing a ruck contest where he was the only one allowed to compete summed up his ruck work yet again
OBrien should be more then ready for a call up, but hes your classic rickman with no ability to kick it. I hope we target Grundy at season's end.

    Re: Round 4

I usually maintain that sides that go handball happy in the wet are asking for trouble (I've seen Essendon do it enough to know how bad the outcomes can be) but last night the Pies were just so clean. Admittedly, the Crows' pressure was abysmal but Collingwood certainly showed how you can make it work in wet conditions.

Grundy was just immense - not only in his ruck work but also his follow up and ability to get involved in link up play. He's basically playing the roll of a very tall midfielder.

    Re: Round 4

Just had a large amount of rain come through Melbourne and it's very windy as well. Think the rain will ease off but and the 'G drains well but it should still be slippery at best and a very swirly wind so goalkicking might be difficult today for Rich v Bris.
