The lack of rookies and abundance of solid mid price breakout contenders, and players returning from LTI's would no doubt be having an influence with those figures.

    Re: Popularity

Yeah certainly agree that there are only about 10 rookie options across the rucks, mids and backs so they're all super common. Then you've got Fyfe, Roughy, Beams and JOM all severely underpriced.

    Re: Popularity

Haven't seen much discussion on popularity here this season. Obviously not a reason to pick a player but always interesting to see what's happening outside here and the guys that are more dangerous to not pick than to pick...

    Defenders

    Doedee - 58.2%
    Murrary - 57.4%
    Laird - 49%
    Finlayson - 39.7%
    Naughton - 38.8%
    Hibberd - 29.4%
    Coffield - 28.9%
    Keeffe - 22%
    Sicily - 20.2%
    Brayshaw - 18.1%
    Yeo - 16.2%
    O'Shea - 13%
    Hurley - 12.6%
    McGrath - 12.3%
    Lloyd - 11.9%
    Savage - 11.6%
    Murphy - 10.6%
    Bonner - 8.8%
    Rance - 8.7%
    Seedsman - 7.9%

Simspon, Shaw, Mirra, Tuohy and Saad are the other guys above 5% (McGovern 4.9%)

My Read: People desperately want to start as many rookies as possible here. Midprice plays are also very popular but most sides are going to have Laird and the same 4 rookies at the minimum so really only 3 spots are going to provide variation. Hibberd and Sicily are making up a significant part of those spots.

    Mids

    Fyfe - 54.9%
    Martin - 53.5%
    Kelly - 51.8%
    Brayshaw - 48.1%
    Holman - 46.1%
    Mitchell - 43.8%
    Banfield - 35.7%
    Barry - 35.6%
    Cripps - 28.2%
    Dow - 26.8%
    O'Meara - 25%
    Kelly -24.6%
    Coniglio - 23.3%
    Davies-Uniacke - 23.1%
    Dangerfield - 21.6%
    Armitage - 15.7%
    Bontempelli - 13.4%
    Crouch - 11.7%
    Merrett - 11.3%
    Brodie - 10.6%
    Liberatore - 9.8%
    Clark - 8.8%
    Zorko - 8.3%
    Graham - 7.7%
    Parker - 7.3%
    Neale - 5.9%
    Oliver - 5.6%
    Sloane - 5.6%
    Pendlebury - 5.5%
    Gibbs - 5.4%
    Rockliff - 5.2%
    Treloar - 5.1%
    Worpel - 5.0%

Ablett, Whitfield, Beams and Selwood are the next 4 at 3.9% or above.

My Read: Rookies are pretty standard with Dow probably the guy we haven't given a lot of time to that is more popular outside and Brodie our alternative really. Basically everyone is picking Fyfe, Martin and Mitchell and then the next two premiums are all over the shop so those are the two guys that are going to matter most.

    Rucks

    Gawn - 63.9%
    Cameron - 38.5%
    NicNat - 17.1%
    English - 15.4%
    Ryder - 12.7%
    Olango - 11.1%
    Nankervis - 10.1%
    Martin - 10%
    Jacobs - 7.2%
    Cox - 6.3%
    Kreuzer - 6.0%
    Grundy - 5.5%
Goldstein - 5.2% wonder why AT loves him
    Simpson - 4.8%
    Sandilands - 3.9%
    Lycett - 2.8%

My Read: Gawn is an absolute lock. The fact that 3 of the next 5 names are the R3 options probably sums up the cluster**** that is R2. I dare say a significant chunk of the Ryder picks are league not overall players.

Somehow the R2 pick is probably going to be the most defining pick of the season if you nail it and the other options flounder.

    Forwards

    Fritsch - 48.8%
    Ryan - 41.2%
    Heeney - 36%
    Rayner - 33.1%
    Petracca - 30.0%
    Smith - 29.7%
    Garlett - 29%
    Fogarty - 27.3%
    Franklin - 24.9%
    Billings - 23.7%
    Stephenson - 22.5%
    Christensen - 20.6%
    Greene - 17.4%
    Ahern - 13%
    Higgins - 11.6%
    Walters - 11.5%
    Zac Langdon - 10.9%
    Dahlhaus - 10.8%
    Gray - 9.6%
    Daniher - 7.8%
    Venables - 7.4%
    Caddy - 7.0%
    Menegola - 6.3%
    Stringer - 6.0%
    Jake Brown (SYD, I don't know why!) - 5.8%
    W. Rioli - 5.6%
    Wingard - 5.3%
    McLean - 5.3%
    C. Rioli - 5.0%
    K. Lambert - 4.8%
    Deledio - 4.6%
    Bell - 4.3%

My Read: About 10% of teams are dead based on the Higgins/Gray picks! Looks like teams are trying to do 3-4 rookies at most. Basically it's Fritsch and Ryan with one and a half of Rayner, Stephenson, Christensen, Garlett and Fogarty. The Heeney is by far the most popular premium. At least one of Smith or Petracca is in most sides, the combo is probably fairly common as they kind of fit together price wise. The second premium for teams is wide open with Buddy, Billings and Greene all very popular picks.

Probably not a huge amount of surprises, few names are more popular than I would have expected. For me I was most surprised how popular Heeney and Petracca were, Mitchell also a surprise to me, not a lot else surprised me, maybe NicNat's popularity but if we say that 10% of teams are dead and most first drafts had him then it's really only about 7% right?
