In fact Sidebottom aside, none of Collingwood's best midfield is playing. With Pendles, Treloar, Adams, Wells & Grundy all missing meaning that the midfield minutes in the game will be pretty misleading.
The thing to look for in this type of game is the guys who have clearly defined roles other than midfield that they're working even though they're better mids than the guys in the midfield. De Goey, Crisp and those types to see whether they've got good looking roles or are just the depth midfield guys still.

Murphy playing already seems impressive given he did his knee in April so that's just a 10 month recovery.

That's about the standard recovery time for a properly rehabbed and setback free reconstruction. 9 months is basically a flawless recovery, 10-11 is on target and anything longer there have been either setbacks or less than ideal rehab or alternatively a very conservative medical team (for young guys this is more likely than the veterans who can feel the clock ticking!).

Murphy has done the process before so would be a bit more confident in it which also helps a lot.

Ben Sinclair's hammy from last night is a bad one. Likely to need surgery and keep him out for 10-12 weeks.

Certainly built a case for selection with tonights game. Was a guy I was hoping Fremantle might scoop up in the pff season has always showed good potential.

Final teams #JLTSeries: @GWSGIANTS Out: Ward, Cameron, Haynes and Smith@WestCoastEagles Out: Sheppard, Cripps, Hill and Allen

Gws is up early on but hard to take much from this game given how weak the two sides are.

Re: JLT Community Series Week 1

Watched most of the WB v Melb game and Melb were certainly very good at getting numbers around the ball and putting pressure on. Really liked the look of Joel Smith down back but he's on the rookie list and I suspect will struggle to be a starter come rd 1.

One thing that was interesting was the use of Gawn and Spencer as a tag team in the ruck with Gawn spending quite a bit of time forward, not just on the bench when out of the ruck. If Spencer keeps playing well and plays rd 1, that might be a concern.

The Melbourne midfielders in Jones, Vince and Lewis all spent some time across half back. Vince might end up spending time there during the regular season but with Hibberd and Jetta to come back in, I'd expect the other two to mainly stay on ball.

For the Bulldogs, Dahlhaus was a clear standout and Cloke was a strong presence on a day where we didn't take many marks as a team. Murphy played the whole game but was very rusty and made some unexpected kicking errors. I'd imagine he'll be better for the run though. With Cloke, Boyd and Crameri spending time fwd (Boyd 2nd rucked), Stringer spent some more time in the midfield but made a lot of mistakes. I suspect Stringer will pinch hit a little in there this year, especially when Bont rotates out.

Finally, Clayton Oliver looked to have trimmed down a little and didn't noticeably tire, although he only played 68% which was less than their other mids. Going to be very awkwardly priced but certainly has upside, especially in SC.

Is Taranto going to squeeze into the Giants lineup?

Who will he replace if he does?
