It probably only matters in the first few rounds anyway before more donuts but given that Geelong, Collingwood or Melbourne play by Friday in the first 7 rounds I don't that not playing Sunday matters at all for the donut. Grundy, Gawn and Danger are going to be the VC for basically everyone anyway and you're pretty much going to have to pick your VC from the early games anyway as Gawn and Grundy have both played by Saturday night in the first 7 rounds, mostly they're done by Saturday morning (Melbourne have the Sat twilight and Pies the Saturday night once each).

Obviously for those throwing curveball ruck lineups that aren't Grundy and Gawn this isn't as much of a factor but I'd still think that's the majority so should be planning accordingly.

I'm pretty much going to be Danger, Grundy or Gawn into Macrae or Cripps for the first 7 weeks other than this one where I've got the tough Cripps take it or leave it decision with Macrae against Sydney.

It's basically more flexibility, especially with Fyfe. It's just maximising the amount of choices you have with it.

    Re: Rucks

Pretty peeved on my backflip of going Gawn/Goldstein and grabbing Grundy after I was avoiding due to the slow pre season (also with the slower return due to playing GF) and having to maintain a 120 average from the get go. Had a change of heart and brought him in, figured I could decide on Gawn v Goldstein later.

100% this. He looked exactly how I feared he would, should have backed the gut. I feel like I say that every year.

    Re: Rucks

Was just looking at some raw numbers from Grundy, Gawn and Goldstein. Mainly looking at their strongest years -

    Player
    Year
    Kicks
    Marks
    Handballs
    Disposals
    Goals
    Behinds
    Hitouts
    Tackles
    DT
    SC
    Goldstein 2015 - 6.5 4.2 8.1 14.7 .45 .41 44 4.3 113.9 128.3
    2016 - 5.8 3.1 7.95 13.7 .9 .21 36.5 3.13 96.4 108.2
    2018 - 6.3 3.4 8.2 14.5 .54 .22 35.6 2.9 93.3 100.9
    Gawn 2016 - 7 4.1 7.5 14.5 .72 .5 42.9 3.6 106.5 118.1
    2018 - 8.2 4.5 7.7 15.8 .52 .48 44.8 2.3 111.3 127.5
    Grundy 2017 - 8.3 3.65 10.1 18.4 .2 .25 35.7 3.9 106.2 97.2
    2018 - 7.9 3.5 12.3 20.2 .34 .3 39.9 5.2 120 130.4

For Goldstein, pretty interesting that from his peak to present, it's the hitout number where he's lost 9 points and tackles that makes up the rest of the difference with disposals staying consistent.

Gawn I find it somewhat interesting how his disposals and hitouts rose in 18 v 16 yet tackles dropped by 1.3. Mainly because I assume this meant he had a bigger tank to get to more contests which is where he'd get his tackles so you think that tackles would stay the same or rise.

Grundy is a different from the above two as he gets lots more of it. His SC averages make no sense, still think 130 is a huge mark to try and hit again, kicking myself over starting him in SC.

Don't write off Grundy yet. He had a shit JLT last year and went sub 100 in Rd 1

It is a given that he won't hit 130 this year. But if he hits 115 to 120, it's still a win.

    Re: Rucks

True that, I dont see any other rucks going 115 besides Gawn, so if he drops to that level its still not the worst result. He did look shocking though, constantly ran under the ball and didnt move between contests well at all. Looked super unfit. Tap work was still really nice though, so hopefully its just a case of him needing to build match fitness.
