From what I heard during the JLT series, is that he could have played JLT3 but they wanted to be extra cautious with him.

Seems impressive but no idea how that compares to other rookies in the past that have played in the colts. Top end price though which I do hate, just wondering if he's a better option to Taranto who I'm worried about in terms of JS.

SYDNEY will unveil top draft pick Oliver Florent for his senior debut in Saturday's clash with Port Adelaide at the SCG.

"I am in shock, I never thought I would play so early and I am just so excited to get out there with the team," Florent said.

"In the team meeting before training John Longmire called me up and asked me a few questions before saying I was playing round one.

"Everything else was a blur pretty much – standing there in shock, in front of the boys as they were slapping the walls and going crazy.

"It was a really good experience."

If his had no Pre season games and picked to play R1 I think he has VERY good JS, Bolton on AFL tonight show (Monday night) seem to really give him a plug and he seemed to really like him as a person and player.

I think Taranto & SPS are good picks for what it's worth.

SPS can flat out play and has better JS than Taranto for sure but his injury could flare up on him under the stress of AFL and does kind of counter that a large amount for me.

Whether he's worth picking for mine comes down to how many other rookies pop up in the midfield. Right now it looks like I might be picking 3 of the F/M guys in the midfield unless I go for SPS instead so it comes down to that largely for me. If I was starting two midfield rookies I'd have a hard time not picking SPS as one of them though I think he'll be a bit streaky with his scoring.

I'm currently rolling both but Taranto as a starting forward is worth the extra right now to my side.

Yeah so the js vs potential better scoring is what it comes down to I imagine - from the sounds of things, Taranto will be the better scorer.

I suppose someone like Horlin-Smith does come into the mix even though I don't like how little he's played in the past.

Brisbane Lions have placed Sam Skinner on the long-term injury list and upgraded Jake Barrett from the rookie list as his replacement.

    Re: Midfield Rookies

Harley Balic has started the season very well playing for Peel, has been one of their best in the opening 2 games.

33 possessions on the weekend, listed as a mid/fwd which is very handy, rookie priced.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him get picked this weekend.... how Suban is playing ahead of him is strange to me.

Alongside Sutcliffe, he and Suban are Ross Lyons love children. They are quite literally poor, week in and week out. To be fair there was a long list of bad performances against Geelong though.

Balic has certainly started well in the WAFL. My issue is where does he play if he comes in? We know he can play well on the ball but Freo already have a couple of quality midfielders in Blakely and Weller playing out of position to try and suit the needs of the team. Just not sure where he fits in unless he can be effective as a small to half forward.

Zac Fisher copped a corky to his hammy in the game on the weekend. Will have to have a fitness test later this week if he's to play but he's more likely than not to miss this week.

Teia Miles did a medial in his knee in the VFL. Expected to miss 6 weeks.
