Essendon guys/anyone half aware with what's going on, is Myers any chance of playing round 1?

Placed on the LTI in late Feb, 6-8 week injury. Might be a good downgrade target.

    No chance dyl:-

    Patrick Keane @AFL_PKeane
Essendon has placed David Myers on the long-term injury list, with no replacement named from the rookie list at this time.

DAVID Myers' run of poor injury luck has continued with the Essendon midfielder to miss up to two months with a finger injury.

Article is from the 21st Feb so at least another month away I am guessing.

Wasn't aware he was put on the LTI, thought it was a 4-6 week injury and was possibly a slim chance of being ready come round 1, guess not!

    Re: Midfield Rookies

Midfield rookies are looking truly dreadful this year. SPP looks great but otherwise struggling to find 3 names that I think play round 1, pretty much going to have to take a few of the forwards here I reckon, they're a suspect group but at least they're looking like playing.

Could also be the position for the loophole, reckon Myers is a very strong option for this. Doesn't have a single game before the Saturday Night fixtures and includes the Anzac game on a Tuesday in the first 10 weeks. Realistically you're hoping for him to be a one month type loophole and then come in and make cash, if the alternative is a crappy rookie who won't make cash then the saved trade and the loophole value should end up well ahead. Decently executed loophole is probably worth 20 points a week and a double chance on a rookie mid, even if it's just getting a look at SPP each week, could add another 20 on that quite easily. So 5 weeks of loophole should probably net in the 100-200 points range.

Harley Balic could be a goer for this given F/C. Or either Parfitt or Miles if not named rd 1. Or Mitch Hibberd as a B/C.

Myers still sounds a fair way away to me. Essendon team is tight at the moment. We won't rush players in. He'll have at least 2 in the VFL I'd have thought.

“David Myers has now got two weeks until he’s out of the hand splint,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.
“Once he’s done that he’ll have a couple of weeks getting back handling the ball and then he’ll become available.

that's from today, so would think rd 6 at an absolute minimum, which means you are robbing yourself of a downgrade target.

I'd only do it if there are just no decent options and was more throwing out as an option. Points on the field and the trade can certainly go a long way to cancelling out the lack of downgrade option, heck I'll probably want to replace him as the loophole anyway as a worst case I guess

Realistically I've been pretty structural in making sure I only need to find a couple of rookie mids because it's looked weak from day dot to me.

    Re: Midfield Rookies

I think it's certainly a worthwhile consideration. Particularly if Atley isn't named.

Balic well suited with 1 game before Sat night to round 11.

Hibberd isn't great for rounds 3 or 4. Still would allow Swans player loops and Treloar for rd 3, but not much else.

Bolton: Petrevski-Seton has had a hit-out over pre-season. He's fit and ready for selection.

Haha Carlton playing a lot close to their chest this year.

Biased but SPS is a jet already
If he's named Round 1 and people want to spend the money, I'd say go for it.
Personally I don't want to spend the extra $$$, and would be more inclined to spend it on Turner in the forward line. But not Taranto
