Damn, that's shocking news. Health rightly comes first.

That's a real shame, has looked in good knick. Sounds more precautionary than having any heart issues again but makes sense.

They also said in that article they will pick up Sam Rowe to help out in defence.

Happy for Rowe, he's on 99 games.

Think Saints would be wishing they held onto Goddard now, although he's always had injury issues too. (Pretty fit now, will probably be EMG for us or close to it if Jones or Weitering were injured)

This sucks for him. Always a shame when someone can't do what they love doing.

The silver lining is it's great for Darragh Joyce who now becomes a very strong chance of playing a lot of games early in a pretty decent role. Battle also becomes an interesting one in the forwards if there is a lack of rookie options there, but too expensive given his scoring potential doesn't look great but if desperate he's there with decent JS.

I guess at least we know this now and can sort out the structures around it.

    Re: Back Midpricers

Unfortunately Dale Morris has injured his ACL, no idea if it's similar to last year where he partially tore and was able to get back or if it's the full rupture but there are obvious concerns for his career at this point which would be a really sad way for such a great player to go out.

It will be very interesting to see how they deal with it given how experimental they've already been down back.

Naughton didn't play defense in JLT2, so that's the first obvious solution that also has no fantasy impact. This one makes by far the most sense to me.

Trengove has been rucking but has experience playing as a KPD so they could conceivably throw him back and ruck English, this would have a fantasy impact for English as a viable ruck option.

They could just play smaller and roll Wood into a KP post with Cordy. Crozier can probably take the 3rd tall in most scenarios and where he can't you'd have Naughton as an option if they persist with him forward.

Final option would be to bring in someone like Young or Roberts to fill the spot. Unfortunately neither of them is fantasy relevant.

So basically the most relevant thing would be Trengove to defense and English one out in the ruck, imo.

It's such sad news for Moz. I'm 95% sure we'll see Naughton down back now, we have said since getting Trengove that we don't see him as a key defender, so unless there's a change of heart, he'll keep rucking.

    Re: Back Midpricers

I'd love to have a crack at Milera, maybe in SC but I just don't see it being a good long term move.

I think his average rises and gets him close to premium levels based off the back of his pre season to go with his role change last year. The issue is with Smith and Williams in the starting team, grabbing a Milera means a Laird option becomes very hard to do unless one of these guys flops and if Laird does do something similar to previous years, you don't really want to be waiting until round 15 before you get him in.

    Re: Back Midpricers

Zac Williams is the other I'm tossing up on,possibly for Milera. Only played the first JLT game and had 80DT from 53% tog. Not sure if he is underdone for why he played so little and didnt play the following week?

I imagine he should get a boost in both fantasy comps with the kick out although him and Shaw will probably be sharing it.

I suppose I'm wondering if he can take that next step. No different to Milera in that sense, less competition for kick outs although Milera might get a good run on the wing and has played 2 pre season games with scores of 85 and 108 DT. William's is the cheaper pick and more popular one which helps make him safer in that sense. Hes not one I've really followed closely to know if he can make that next step fantasy wise or this is around what to expect?

    Yeah, same.
My last 2 decisions are Williams vs Milera (but that would give me 3 Crow backs), and Heeney vs Gray vs Dunkley
This post was more than likely SC based.
If in doubt, assume it was.

    Re: Back Midpricers

Williams picked up an ankle knock in the first JLT game and was managed through the game, then didn't come up in time for the next one. He's had a good preseason though and got back for matches in the finals last year so I see no real issue going forward.

As Divvy said, he rolled an ankle in the 2nd quarter of JLT1, his score actually comes from more like 30% TOG as he went and rested forward and barely touched it for another quarter after the injury just to keep rotations balanced.

I think the kick-in rule changes will help him in DT to close his ratio gap. No Wilson now as well so natural improvement from less stealing is a strong chance.

Milera is a good player but not sure if he can push quite high enough with Smith and Laird also there.

That they both share their bye with Laird, Smith, Whitfield, Simpson, Newman, Houli and Short is also a big consideration, I think there is really only room for one or the other as I've got Smith locked in (I've also got Williams locked in but for those deciding!). Realistically Laird and Whitfield are two of the best bets of premium scoring so likely going to want at least one and probably 2 by the byes which given the teams are also strong in midfield options is a genuine factor.

    Bombers fans... thoughts on McGrath?

I'm seriously tempted, please talk me out of it.

Here's an option from left field for those wanting a stupid gamble.

    Pearce Hanley.

His durability record is so terrible but has finally had a preseason so that's a bonus.
