Can't complain with that at all if that was the case.

Re: 2016 Trade + Free Agency Period

The rumour doing the rounds is a 3-way swap between GWS, WCE and Freo with Ballantyne, McCarthy and MacKenzie.

WCE supposedly looking for a pick to come their way as well.

Freo would be reasonably happy to land McCarthy and Hill while hanging on to #3

The Fremantle Dockers on Tuesday confirmed further changes to the club’s playing list.

Matt de Boer, Tendai Mzungu, Clancee Pearce and Jack Hannath have been advised that their contracts will not be extended.

Brady Grey and rookie listed player Josh Deluca have been delisted but both have been given the opportunity to train with the club and possibly be re-listed during the draft period in November.

It sounds like Cam Pedersen is going to be offered another 1 year deal too. Now I'm not sure if this signing or the Hogan signing is the best news of the day.

Of that lot all are either limited or extremely limited players. Having said that, I could see de Boer getting a rookie spot somewhere, potentially.

Re: 2016 Trade + Free Agency Period

    Bit of an update.

    Adelaide

Monitoring Tom Rockliff's situation. Supposedly stopped taking the piss with Jarrad Lyons and offering him more than before.

    Brisbane Lions

Chris Fagan needs to get to grips on the Tom Rockliff and Pearce Hanley scenarios pretty quickly.

    Carlton

Biggest point of contention at the moment seems to be what they'll get back from paying pick 5 for Caleb Marchbank - you'd have to think one of GWS's mid-teens picks and maybe a player will be involved. Zach Tuohy being courted by North Melbourne and Geelong.

    Collingwood

Chris Mayne, Daniel Wells and Nick Dal Santo as free agents all appear likely. Travis Cloke for pick 72 supposedly all but done, a real Day 1 10.05am type trade.

    Essendon

Michael Hibberd to Melbourne for pick 26 seems pretty straightforward. Seems like Hamish Hartlett wants to come as well. Might be one of those Greg Broughton type trades where the more salary cap relief is provided, the lower the pick required. Working with GWS on turning pick 1 into picks 5 and 7, or something similar. Links to Jack Darling seem to have cooled.

    Fremantle

Apparently the free agency offer to Chris Mayne is high enough that the compensation pick will be enough to get Brad Hill. Talk of a 3-way deal with Hayden Ballantyne, Cam McCarthy and Eric MacKenzie appear to hinge on what else Fremantle could provide West Coast. Strong interest in uncontracted Shane Kersten. Looks like they may be able to land 2-3 reasonably young best 22 players and hang on to pick 3 which would be an amazing result.

    Geelong

Strong Fremantle interest in Shane Kersten. Steven Motlop appears to be available at the right price. Some interest in Zach Tuohy

    Gold Coast

Working through the Dion Prestia to Richmond and Jaeger O'Meara to Hawthorn deals. Strong interest in Pearce Hanley and Lin Jong. May try to get in on the potential pick 1 trade if they want a selection before someone bids on Bowes.

    Greater Western Sydney

Caleb Marchbank to Carlton and Cam McCarthy to Fremantle both look very likely, Jack Steele to St Kilda a real chance and Jake Barrett to whoever will take him. May land Eric MacKenzie for McCarthy. Very interested in pick 1. Will probably offload a bunch of incredibly talented bottom end players for pick upgrades.

    Hawthorn

Will have to trade for Jaeger O'Meara, Tom Mitchell and quite possiby Tyrone Vickery if Richmond match their FA bid. They should get an early second round pick for Brad Hill, and there's talk of Luke Bruest maybe being on the trade table if he's unwilling to commit past the end of 2017 when his free agency kicks in.

    Melbourne

Will probably trade pick 26 for Michael Hibberd which leaves them pretty much out of the trade + draft period from then on unless they want to work with their future picks.

    North Melbourne

Interest in Zach Tuohy and quietly monitoring Hamish Hartlett. Will probably get a reasonable pick for Daniel Wells if he leaves through free agency. Lots of nasty rumours about senior players, but probably a reasonably quiet one for North, perhaps gearing up for a bigger move in 2017.

    Port Adelaide

In desperate salary cap stakes and will probably move on Hamish Hartlett reasonably cheap to clear some space. Hard to see them getting too heavily involved this year.

    Richmond

Need to negotiate a reasonable deal for Dion Prestia; pick 6 seems fair. May match Hawthorn's bid on Tyrone Vickery if unhappy with the potential compensation. Talk around their willingness to trade a whole host of senior players, but talk is cheap.

    St Kilda

Sounds like Alan Richardson and Ameet Bains have written a lot of names on a lot of magnets, but most have turned them down. Jack Steele sounds like a real possibility however.

    Sydney

Tom Mitchell is yet to re-sign, and it sounds like there's significant cap pressure restricting their offer to him. Dean Towers another who may be squeezed out.

    West Coast

Hayden Ballantyne for Eric MacKenzie a possible trade if WCE get something more. Rumours around Jack Darling but seems likely to stay. Drew Petrie a potential short-term cover for Naitanui

    Western Bulldogs

Celebrations still going, so hard to tell at this point. Lin Jong a real chance to go, Travis Cloke more or less already a Dog.

Re: 2016 Trade + Free Agency Period

Agree that Melbourne will be done after the Hibberd deal. Their 1st and second picks will be gone and they won't be able to trade next year's 1st rounder this year. Their biggest piece of offseason business got done yesterday.

Troy Chaplin joined the club this morning to be the 'offensive coordinator', whatever that is.

Re: 2016 Trade + Free Agency Period

Nice summary Ben, looks reasonably busy.

Port is a question mark for me, feels like they're not exactly moving forwards by letting Hartlett go for relatively cheap, the big deals given to Lobbe, Dixon and Ryder upset the balance salary wise there because there's no reason why that list should be having salary cap problems. No second round pick either this year, and likely to be taking their first pick outside the top 10 once academy players get involved.

Collingwood the other contender for the most demoralising trade period.

If I'm Brisbane, I'd consider putting the 2017 first round pick on the table and seeing if Essendon, Freo or GC bite with picks 1, 3 and 4 respectively. Essentially that would be cashing in next years first rounder a year early, risk involved because they could likely end up with Pick 1 next year but it kick-starts their regeneration, removes any motivation to crash out late in the season, and could manouvre themselves quite nicely to potentially receive some steak knives on top of the pick. Depends what happens with Hanley and Rockliff of course.

From Fremantle's perspective, Barlow to GC or a Melbourne club might be in the cards, whilst Zac Clarke is another who is a chance to go but unlikely. Some rumours around Pickett from GWS being homesick, together with GWS's list manager mentioning that he'd be tradeable but no one has enquired yet. My mail on Hogan leaving seems to have been quite misinformed! Pretty used to missing out on these targets now, I did find it quite interesting that both Lobb and Hogan signed essentially the same deal within half an hour of each other when both would have likely had much longer-term offers on the table, with the rumours that FA may shift from 8 to 6 years by then that puts both these guys in for a massive pay-day come 2020.

Petrie to West Coast seems very strange considering how little he rucks.

what a shit show that is. how did they get themselves into that position where they're ditching one of their few A grade players for cap space.

    Richmond

have read this a few times, but would they really? it means that Ty Vickery can accept their matched offer - an offer they've not been prepared to extend until now. all he needs to do is say Yep, and it's done without Richmond getting another say in it.

when you put it like that, sounds like a perfect Richmond move
    TEX WALKER. that is all.

We'd only give up 5 if it's for Marchbank, Stewart and Pick 16 or something like that. I'd probably take that, I really like Stewart.

Think 5 for Marchbank and 16 would be a certain loss for us, really don't think it will happen.

    Steele would be nice though

Re: 2016 Trade + Free Agency Period

Feel like we'll have a lot of guys outside of our best 22 that will be looking for new homes that should be able to get a game at other clubs - CEY, Grigg, Henderson, Kelly, O'Brien, Otten and Wigg are all guys that could consider moving elsewhere/might attract some interest.

Obviously wouldn't want to lose them all given you need some kind of depth but given how few games these guys managed to play this year I wouldn't be surprised to see them go to other clubs that are able to promise them more of a shot at AFL level.

Think I read an article where Henderson was going to go back to VIC, free agent?

And CEY is contracted but looks like he wants to go if the offer comes along (based on TradeRadio chat with his manager today)
