Missed Blake Grewar getting a category B rookie list spot for Bris, so there was one mature age midfielder drafted after all.

He also goes immediately on to the watchlist. Good numbers in the NEAFL + at Bris is hopefully a good combo.

So we're going into the season with one less senior player on our list and 2 less rookies (given I'm not counting Shaw since he retired only a month or so ago). I don't get it...

Think I'm up to needing two hands to count all the disappointing moves (or lack of) that we've made this off-season.

Luke Ryans VFL stats from last year.

Plenty of people rate him, hopefully has a similar impact as someline like Hibberd in his first couple of years.

Players not in AFL next year: Mitch Brown (WCE), Jack Grimes (Melb), Xavier Richards (Syd), Courtney Dempsey (Ess), Cam O'Shea (Port) as well as Mitch Clark and Chris Dawes who were already out of their second club.

Would've expected the first three at least to have been taken somewhere along the line.

Grimes decided not to nominate for the drafts after being overlooked in FA.

I guess he must have seen the writing on the wall. Seems strange that no club would be interested in him in some capacity though.

I probably would have taken Mitch Brown over the likes of Silvagni.

Disagree Sledgey - don't underestimate just how shit Brown played the last few years.

Saw Silvagni beat Darling in a derby last year, I think he offers more than Brown as a tall defender.
SC is FFC's number 1 fantasy game

    Re: 2016 AFL Draft thread

I bet on the Dogs to beat the Eagles purely because they selected Brown for that final...

Richards surprises me the most, he showed a fair bit at both ends for Sydney and is still relatively young, could have been very handy depth at the least. Reckon his passion might be questioned after he rejected a contract though that was always going to be more than he made as a rookie, I mean if you don't want to play for more money then I'd have questions on a rookie contract, he was trade or bust as a result.

Grimes is a sad story, genuine talent but just couldn't stay on the park and then just seemed to age about 10 years early...

    Re: 2016 AFL Draft thread

Another potentially relevant rookie picked up yesterday with Ben McNeice signed as a category B rookie by Essendon due to his mother being from India.

Designated kicker as a small defender. Very unlikely to start the season, but as a downgrade target he should score well if given a chance, particularly in SC.
