Redman will likely be dropped this week. There's a lot of noise on BomberBlitz about Yestin Eades (base price forward) - he may get a run this week, especially given it's Dreamtime. No idea whether he's been playing well in the 2s or people are just excited because he's actually a talented small forward on our list.

But can he do the inflatable man dance like the current nominee to rot in the Bombers forward pocket...

He's certainly an option, particularly in SC where the role is a more lucrative role.

Will have Mathieson also next week from Brisbane who's ability to win high free kicks actually makes Selwood look pedestrian at that skill, the kid even managed to find high contact while lying on the ground! In SC those are gold given they're classified as contested ball wins even if they're terrible to watch. His role was very good.

Trent West is also one to at least keep an eye on, expensive at 196k (165k in DT) but has R/F status and was the clear #1 ruck at Brisbane (as absurd as that seems). Not sure if it was just fear of Gawn or a genuine move (Martin wasn't awful as a forward so they might stick with it), for those carrying Grimley he might be worth going, obviously you couldn't go both he and Hopper because it's just too much cash to give up (imo anyway).

Looking through the list of forward rookies it's a barren wasteland of nothingness, you might have a couple more to add but:

Paine - See above, almost certainly the best option to come.

    West - See above.

Crocker - Still an option but the way he's scoring, is he really?

Redman - Same story as Crocker.

Gallucci - Looked alright in preseason, SC is saying he is hurt right now though and the Carlton small forwards are all playing well.

    C. Smith - Seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

    J. Dawson - Has missed the past few with a calf, looked a good prospect in NAB Cup but also limited from fantasy perspective for now, Swans are flying so a fair way back anyway, wouldn't expect to see any more than a token late game to ruin him for next year...

Wylie Buzza - Just wanted to type his name.

Jake Long - Wouldn't expect too much scoring even if he does play, is this right?

Sam Reid (GWS) - Team is so loaded it's hard to see him being more than a stop gap or token game.

Declan Hamilton - I named him purely because the Dogs seem hellbent on using their entire list, I know nothing about him.

Apeness - Freo are running out of alternatives, could be useful.

Close - 3 weeks away still per injury report but could get some games but like all young KPF stuck at Brisbane someone not playing might actually make more cash...

Keough - Was close in the preseason, if their injuries keep stacking up it's sooner rather than later I'd assume.

Hipwood - Chance of games but 160k and I wouldn't have thought much scoring potential.

Saunders/Rose/Hams - All 155-160k, all chance of games here and there but none with job security I wouldn't think. Hams probably the best situation if he breaks in he has a chance.

Weideman - 185k KPF... probably a waste of time, best hope is he plays and scores a few 20s to make him relevant next year, though might be better off not playing.

WhiteX/Curren/McGinnity - All at the 190k+ range with no JS and other than WhiteX limited scoring potential.

Hiscox - Is depth only and was pretty damn terrible in a pathetic loss, so probably took 2 steps back from his next game...

Willis - Could be an option, same deal as Keough, the more injuries the better but if he couldn't play this week it's probably not a great sign.

Garlett - 185k probably says no.

    Kommer - LOL

Grimley - For anyone who doesn't have him he could be decent but JS is clearly trash.

    Templeton - 196k, can't see the case.

Howard - Real option if he could get in and win the ruck gig from Trengove... but JS is clearly trash if he can't get a game right now.

That's the best of the names unless I'm missing someone, kind of suggests perhaps we should be getting all over Paine or perhaps planning for Petracca to be there all season as cover for the forwards/mids? Also clearly suggests that if West can play and play well again then he has to come into consideration for those who really need a R/F link with Grim, he's almost certainly the last chance on that train without paying the premium for Tippett (pretty much).
good post. yeah there's virtually no one in the works.

Hadn't really though about West as an option, but he could also be a good move for those with Currie in RDT. Then when Currie is ready to be traded, West moves into the ruck and pick up a forward. Makes me tempted to go Mathieson this week and then leave open the option of West/Paine next week.

Only others I can see not mentioned above:
Oleg Markov - was emergency this past week for Richmond. Small/medium forward. May get games at some stage and probably one of the better options
Dallas Willsmore - at Hawthorn so job security is pretty garbage, but was smashing it to start the year in the VFL. Scoring has tailed off a little in the last couple of weeks, but was emergency this past round and still averaging ~110 in the VFL. Shame that he had a quieter week, given this week you'd think there'd be a couple of changes at the Hawks.

agree that Long won't score much. Would be imaging similar numbers to Redman. Maybe could surprise though. Think I read Gallucci was out for the season.

On Eades, yes he's probably worth mentioning, but ordinary scoring at VFL level and from the couple of VFL games I've seen so far, has a fair way to go to get an AFL game.

Given Mathieson would have been picked round 1 if it wasn't for getting injured I think he's the best option this week even if it means going early.

Would probably have shiv'ed Dempster if he tried those shenanigans on him.

Thinking the same - certainly knows how to earn a free for high contact at AFL level

Considered going super early on him ahead of Macpherson, kicking myself that I didn't now!

Yarran for Freo will be a FWD option at some point.

    Is he injured again?

Looks like he played the one WAFL game a few weeks ago, but has missed the last 3.

With no pre-season I'd have thought he'd need an extended run in the WAFL before he gets an AFL chance.

All the more reason for Ross to play him at AFL level now then

Yeah, I think Yarran is probably a late season option if anything.
