Nice. Gives a potential trade from Kerridge at his bye. Can then do a mid or Petracca to a rd 13 forward for F6 slot a week later.

Whams averaging 88 DT at VFL level this year.

Apeness is another thats popped up FWD. Not expecting him to score to well but could have a decent stay in the side, will play deep FF.

How did he look on the weekend v Freo? I'd like to know if he is worth going early on.

Watched the game, think i noticed Hams maybe twice, yet he put up a great score in the circumstances....unsure if positive or negative haha.

Played a bit of time forward and a bit in the middle. He's a tough little bastard and popped up a couple of times in the forwardline as well, kicking 1.1 and having another shot from open play just after the siren.

I wouldn't go early on him because of question marks over his job security (Kelly, Stokes and Laverde will be back soon, plus Francis isn't far away either). In SC where I have Collins already, I'm more likely to go early on Trengove and wait and see with Hams.

I'm going to be desperate for a FWD downgrade in order to cash in M.Brown (now stuck in the FWDs with Tippa and no link) so will be hoping he survives. I agree with Ben that Whams' JS is shaky. Only hope would be that Woosha wants to give him a decent run at it to give him the opportunity to prove himself. I didn't mind his game on the weekend. Was hard at it and provided a bit of bite around the stoppages in the forward line.

    Re: Forward Rookies

He's been quite willing to commit to blocks of time in the seniors for kids when they break in so I'd expect Hams to play a couple. Whether he plays enough is the question. I guess if he plays the next 3 that's enough to get through the byes.

There really hasn't been any reason for him not to be patient, finding and blooding a few good kids is basically the best possible outcome of this season.

Also with Baguley out indefinitely that's an extra spot for a bit harder body and Bags has played a decent amount forward over the last month as well so should be a solid sign for Hams.

This is a great point, Bags has definitely played as a defensive forward at times and I think Hams could hold that role for a little while at least.

Bags out is a real shame but if there is a silver lining, it is Whams

    Re: Forward Rookies

GIANT Brisbane Lions draftee Eric Hipwood will make his debut against West Coast on Saturday.

Lions coach Justin Leppitsch told the playing group on Tuesday morning and the club released the news that afternoon with a video on its website.

Hipwood, a Lions Academy product, was taken at No.14 in last year's AFL Draft after the club matched Richmond's bid for him.

The 18-year-old is listed at 200cm and 82kg, but Leppitsch revealed last week that he had grown 3cm since pre-season.

Hipwood has been a strong contributor in the Lions' NEAFL team in recent weeks and can play forward, back or in the ruck.

Upon hearing the news, Hipwood was stuck for words, saying he was "just looking forward to it".

Not expecting big scores (the rakiest rake of all rakes), but as a DEF/FWD could be a handy DPP with Tippa/Suckling for the rest of the year.

This is pretty much the reason why I'm getting T Phillips from Collingwood. His DPP will be handy when it's time to upgrade Petracca.

Haha I'm almost the same reason... except it's because I'll be holding Petracca and thus he provides me with cover in both positions!
