Is Broad a certain for Richmond going into Round 1? Not sure who is missing in Richmonds back half though?

    Re: Back Rookies

I'd say he's touch and go best 22. Astbury played well last night as well which isn't ideal. You've got Chaplin, Rance and Batchelor down back already also.

    Re: Back Rookies

My read on the situation is that Astbury is competing with Chaplin (and winning) and Broad is competing with Batchelor for a spot. Neither Chaplin nor Batchelor played last night.

Well Broad would be behind those guys I'm guessing, he has been pretty handy in his 2 NAB games which is positive.

Hardwick has played a lot of young guys in round 1 in the past, have a sneaky gut feeling Broad will get a game.

Thoughts on Matt Dea dons boys? Didn't see the game but put up some very promising numbers. Is he best 22 material?

Wouldn't have thought so a couple of weeks ago, but yes based on yesterday I'd imagine he will certainly be there rd 1.

Yep, Dea and Tippa were both impressive. Brown's and Hartley's performances were concerning (particularly in RDT).

    Re: Back Rookies

As long as Brown is playing in the backline I have no concern over his scoring, nearly every point he scored yesterday was when playing back not forward.

    Re: Back Rookies

Looking at Essendon's backline, there's currently Dempsey and Grima who will probably play games at some point, currently out of the team. (likely are best 22?)
Then you have Dea, Brown, Hartley, Baguley, Gwilt and other guys like McKenna, Fantasia and Gleeson.
The big question is, is Brown needed more up forward? It's abundantly clear that the Bomber's forward line is pretty much where Fantasy players go to die. He basically didn't touch the ball yesterday up forward, and looking at their game plan of bomb long to a 1 on 2 and hope for the best, I can't see that changing. Brown also played back in NAB2 and only had 9 possessions.
Then you have Hartley. Over the last 2 games, he's had a combined total of 15 possessions. He uses it well, but when he's not getting it, that doesn't really matter. Is his defensive side good enough to keep his spot, if he isn't getting the ball?
Dempsey is out 4 weeks through suspension, and Grima is probably quite underdone at this point. But Woosha did mention that Grima is there abouts in his press conference, which isn't a great sign.
Baguley plays 100 times out of 100. He's the only one you can be completely confident will play every game. After that, it really is a crap shoot as to who actually is best 22.
I'm currently starting Dea and Hartley, with Brown on the bench (Adams on the field). Dea has been the big bolter in recent times. You'd hope, on NAB form, that he'd be pretty well locked into the team for the early stages. Which is great for him, but he's also 70k more than the other 2. And he fills a spot that probably was Brown/Hartley's to lose a week or so ago.
Lot of things to consider in the next 10 days.
This post was more than likely SC based.
If in doubt, assume it was.

    Re: Back Rookies

Daniher, Grimley and McKernan will be our forward combo I think hendo. Pretty comfortable with brown playing down back. I think yesterday with Ambrose playing back as well, Brown was freed up a bit. Doubt that'll be the case in the real deal.
    Never bet against Tom Rockliff

Apparently he didn't do much else in the praccy match though. Would be shocked if he was named in the 25 even for Round 1 (a lot of Carlton supporters absolutely love him though.)

Bloody good composure by Byrne to still execute the kick with that hit coming.
