Wonder what excuse Tippett will use on April 16.
This post was more than likely SC based.
If in doubt, assume it was.

    Re: 2016 AFL Fixture

Sydney's draw is pretty good considering ladder position.

Get Hawks, North, GWS, Richmond and Carlton twice. Realistically we should be angry with anything less than 7 wins out of that group and really should be aiming for at least 8 and probably 9 given we should be aiming to at least split the Hawks series.

We travel everywhere (QLD x2, Tassie, WA and SA) but that isn't really that bad (may as well get two away games in QLD).

We really should be aiming to be 8-0 heading into the round 9 clash with the Hawks at the G. Facing Pies, Blues, Giants, Crows (away), Eagles (SCG), Lions, Bombers and Tigers before that game, really the Eagles is the only game that should be a 50/50 right now and we should go in as favourites in the rest at this point in time. I'd be hoping the internal expectation is that anything below 11-2 heading in to the bye would be a very poor result. Post Bye is a bit more difficult, Dogs, Cats (Simonds), Hawks, Blues, Fremantle (away) and Port is the next 6 games, I'd think we'd be aiming to go 50/50 in those realistically. Nice little run into finals with Saints, Roos and Tigers where we should get some nice competitive games to go in a bit harder but also games we should go into expecting to win.

Not a bad fixture, I'd think anything under 15 wins would be a truly poor effort and that realistically we should be pushing for 17+ on that fixture.

    Beat Melbourne x2, Brisbane x2.
Showdown is probably a split, but wouldn't be surprised if you won both.
GWS should improve so 1/1 maybe
Richmond should be 1/1 as well

You're a good chance of at least 7/10 of your double ups. Providing you don't nosedive your season like this one.

Essendon hasn't played Fremantle in Melbourne since before the Brownlow Medalist debuted.

Just 1 game at the MCG v Collingwood for Freo.
This is pretty much standard for Freo, the club has learnt to deal with, which is why people who complain about the restings at the end of the season are morons.

Been a while since we've played Sydney here as well. AFL seem to have their favourites in having teams travel v. a side.

Lyon rested his 8 best players in round 19 in 2009, a bye is stupid if you ask me, extends the season and we miss out on footy for one week.

Exactly, the week off won't change the fact coaches will still rest some players, possibly Rd21/22 instead of 23, but it will still occur. Silly change that just adds a gap week for no good reason imo.

Absolute momentum killer, no idea what they're thinking. It's basically the perfect way to disengage all neutral fans by clearly ending their AFL season.

AFL administration is just a complete joke at this point.

    Re: 2016 AFL Fixture

    Don't agree at all really.

Coaches will still rest players yes, but the AFL now has the justification to crack down massively on mass restings in the final couple of rounds which is the issue in the first place.

Nobody cares if one or two players are out from a given team. What fans care about is not having the dead rubber Port v Freo and Richmond v North shambles games as in round 23 this year. By having the bye after round 23 those dead rubbers will not occur. It's as simple as that. If Freo or North proposed mass restings in a similar way, they would be rejected and told they are about to cop a massive fine if they have a host of outs. So to that end, the solution works.

Also we clearly don't miss out on a week of football. It's not like there would be another 9 games if they didn't have the bye.

why is round 23 still not finalised?
its like they came up with this idea at the last minute, should not be any changing of round 23 if they are taking a week off.

2012 or 13 for Essendon v Sydney I think. Was the game where Troy Pannell got absolutely poleaxed by Malceski after the single worst umpiring performance in sporting history.

I'm sure there's heaps of anomalies where team X has played team Y interstate 5 of the last 7 times or something, but a 6 year streak is very interesting.

We play the WA clubs twice including round 23 because you can't possibly send a Victorian side there. North are fine, they are exactly on our level and I understand we were always getting 3 from our 6 tier anyway. Port and Geelong were logical double ups but it all stacks up that we're going to have to be really good to make the 8 this season.

I'm happy with extra games at the G, especially the clash against Hawthorn. It's what we need going forth even if we are going to improve on the big stage. Come out of those first 8 rounds 4-4 at a minimum and you can start to build some wins around weaker sides like Gold Coast as our run opens up a little.
Better to make the eight on merit than scrape in on an easy draw and lose the first final anyway.
Never argue with a fool. They'll drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
