That Freo v Adelaide game in Mt Barker might be the biggest event in that town's history. Nice junket potential for the AFL cronies there too, it's a big winemaking region.

Surprised though that the AFL didn't drip feed the announcement of these NAB games between now and the draft. Big opportunity missed.

It's about time they got rid of the flamn pre season showdown games. What a complete waste of time they were.

Freo have done well in that they don't have to leave WA

Adelaide are going to get very familiar with WCE & Fremantle. We'll see them at least 3 times this year each.

Hopefully it sets us up well.

    Re: 2016 Nab Challenge

HAWTHORN will field a powerful squad, made up of 13 members of its 2015 premiership side, in its first hit-out of the season against Carlton in Thursday's NAB Challenge opener at Aurora Stadium in Launceston.

The Blues will be without reigning best-and-fairest winner Patrick Cripps, but Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson and Matthew Kreuzer are all set to play

Carlton skipper Marc Murphy has been named but said on Tuesday that he was unlikely to play.

The Hawks' star-studded team features star midfielders Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis, with Josh Gibson and Ben Stratton anchoring the defence.

However, Hodge will not captain the side with defender Grant Birchall to fill that role.

Last year's Norm Smith medallist Cyril Rioli has not been picked, with experienced utility Shaun Burgoyne and sharpshooter Jack Gunston also left out.

Delisted Melbourne forward Jack Fitzpatrick will be given an opportunity to press his claim to replace Jarryd Roughead – who is out until mid-season after knee surgery – alongside Gunston.

New Blues coach Brendon Bolton will be hoping to see positive signs out of the club's two top draft picks with Jacob Weitering and Harry McKay included in the squad.

Carlton recruits Jed Lamb (Greater Western Sydney), Sam Kerridge (Adelaide), Andrew Phillips (GWS), Daniel Gorringe (Gold Coast) and Matthew Wright (Adelaide) will be given the chance to impress in the lead-up to the 2016 season.

    Howe needs an underline then

Understand what you mean and not trying to be a pain, only mentioned him cause I think he'll be a stand out of the new guys for Hawthorn, unfortunately he is priced to awkward.

I do wonder how you pick the highlights! I'd have said Kerridge was the most noteworthy Blues player

Kedge was the biggest omission but it's fine, everyone will be watching him anyway.

    Keen to have footy back.

Looking forward to seeing how Kerridge and Wright go/are used, even though it's just a practice match.

lol yep will cop Kerridge as an oversight, completely missed him. Also thought WhiteX was a fwd only now, but mild interest given he's a B/F.

Will be watching Lewis and Birchall very closely, quite keen to lock them both away as keeper options, call it a hunch

Wow didn't even notice.... No idea why. I guess just rotations / being managed, would expect him to play the next two. Cripps etc not playing either and no reason for that.
