    Hogan wins Rising Star

Jesse Hogan won the Rising Star award.
9 of the 10 judges gave him 10 votes, Cripps and Hogan got the 4 and 5 from every judge.
49 votes is the best ever, beating Hannebery, Rich and Rivers who had 45 votes.

Sheed came third with 27, so it was pretty much a unanimous top 3 this year.

I had money on Cripps @$17, so bit disappointed, but it's the right decision.

Side note, still very surprised Crouch didn't at least get a nomination this year. Every game he wasn't sub, he had more than 20 possessions (10 games @25.2 dpg).
His sub affected games cost him a nomination (and probably a few votes).
This post was more than likely SC based.
If in doubt, assume it was.

Thought Cripps might have got a few more 1st places myself.

Only 10 guys polled and Lever managed just 2 who I'd have ahead of Crouch in terms of who impressed me more this year so I guess I'm not too surprised to see him miss (his disposal averages are impressive though). Actually been rather disappointed with what Crouch has done over the past 3-4 weeks, burns the ball quite a bit, doesn't run both ways and just doesn't have any stand out features at this point I feel (well I guess his is just finding the ball). From what I've seen this year I much prefer what CEY brought to the team over Crouch but we look to be sticking with Crouch since the mid point. Getting us off the topic of rising star so I'll leave it at that.

Didn't realise they had gone from 9 to 10 judges so a draw was in fact possible if they went 5 5's each and 5 4's each. Should've left it at 9 judges.

Yeah they've added an extra judge because I remember Rich getting all the votes in his RS year

right winner, I still don't like this voting process though, would much rather see a panel give a private 5-4-3-2-1 each week to the best kids, maybe have it public for first half the season then behind close doors. players like Harris Andrews really deserve votes and not just a nomination.

would Hogan win that? not really sure so maybe not the best way

I'd have thought that would have favoured Cripps who would have polled just about every week.

Personally I'd have voted for Cripps but it was a bee's dick margin and I can understand going for Hogan for anyone who gives bonus points for being a KP player (which was basically the entire media crusade this past month so not at all shocked he won). Was a very good crop this year.

I also agree with the idea of having that, perhaps the AFLPA should do their rookie of the year based on that kind of system.

yay! Wanted Hogan to win it. Thought the media was more in love with Cripps though personally, so am a bit surprised.

Cripps had a great season, but to do what Hogan did as a KPF was something else.

Last few weeks all the KP guys have been lobbying hard, the entire half time coverage for the Melbourne game on the weekend was a tirade about how it's a joke that KP guys don't win the award more and that it makes a mockery of the sport that only midfielders win it (despite Talia beating Cameron just a couple of years ago when we last had a deserving KP guy). Was a genuine campaign for him aimed at the voters as well.
