    Re: 2015 AFL Draft

I don't know what to do, Essendon will have our best pick since 2008 or even 2006, so I might have to take some interest in it.

Or more likely I'll blindly say we should draft Josh Parrish and say sack Dodoro when we draft someone who turns out to be better (Myers/Palmer, Hurley/Rich etc.)

As expected, AFL has rejected priority pick claims from Carlton and Brisbane.

Hard to see it happening. Whoever was reporting on Leuey the other day was suggesting it was a 400-450k contract likely to draw a 2nd round compo. He'd only be getting a 3 year deal max I'd have thought so would need to be a massive deal to trigger band 1.

    Re: 2015 AFL Draft

I hope they don't. I don't think Leuey is worth a first rounder. End of maybe, but not after first.
He's only played 108 games in 9 years, has a long injury history, only had 3 years where he played half the season, wasn't a first ruck this year, he's 27 years old. I just don't think he deserves pick 3 at all. I didn't think Frawley did, and he had a better resume than Leuenberger. Depends if the AFL want to give them a priority pick, without actually giving them one.

This post was more than likely SC based.
If in doubt, assume it was.

Dollars and years, otherwise, it doesn't enter the discussion. Sounds like they're tightening the criteria after Melbourne got their pseudo-priority pick which is fine by me.

I wonder if Brisbane can do some kind of deal where they essentially pay part of the deal for the new team (similar to what the Dogs did with Griffen).

Not necessarily saying to pay Leuenbergers contract but perhaps they do a deal with say Fremantle where Freo sign Leuey on 600k and Brisbane sends Merrett to Freo and pays half his contract for a 2nd type deal where Freo get their man at overs, Brisbane give up an asset, get a pick and push Leuey into the 1st round compo package. Hard to see the AFL being able to stop Freo paying whatever they want and they can't really block what is a pretty fair offer for Merrett either.

I know if I'm Brisbane I'd be trying to get something like that happening.

Bailey Rice has nominated St Kilda over Carlton as his father-son option for the draft this year.

Interestingly Brett Anderson suggesting that the Saints are likely to have to use a pick in the 25-30 region for Rice, which could have some influence on the Carlisle deal.

Saints could be looking for a pick in that range as a result.

Alternatively if I'm Essendon and I've just been pissed off by St Kilda and have picks 23 and 25. I'm bidding early in the knowledge they will be a 99% chance of taking him anyway.

If they end up screwing you with a pick 10-13 I'd have no hesitation in using that pick to start bidding.

Some information about the changes to this year's draft night.

    Notably:
    - Clubs are no longer in the main room but instead will be in a separate room. They will be submitting picks via computer and those picks will now be announced on stage.
    - The draft software on the computers will automatically update pick order and numbers when academy or father-son picks are taken
    - Clubs needing to decide if they'll match a bid will be shown exactly what it will cost them and what will happen to their later picks
    - Deficit limit for this year is set at 1,723 points, which is the equivalent of the first four picks for the premiership team.
    - 20% discount in first round and fixed 197pt discount after that for academy and father-son selections
    - No more red button with draft being shown in full

    Re: 2015 AFL Draft

Doing a bit of stalking of Brett Anderson's Twitter page, which is always pretty good for information at this time of year.
He's very strong on Curnow to Dees at 3 rather than Parish. Also thinks GC's mystery man for pick 6 is Clayton Oliver, which would be a fairly big surprise.

Based on his comments and the assumption that Ess are into Parish as has been suggested all along, top picks looking something like (excluding academy players):

    1. Weitering
    2. Schache
    3. Curnow
    4. Parish
    5. Weideman/Francis
    6. Oliver

Also a suggestion that Dees may look for a KPD at 7 like Collins. Be interesting to see where Francis goes. I'd really love him at Ess. Some chance he could slip to Adelaide's pick 9 though.

    Re: 2015 AFL Draft

Yeah seen some talk about Francis dropping to Adelaide which would be pretty nice from the sounds of things.

Burton is an interesting prospect, seemed to be a top 5 talent but had a very bad leg break, the kind that might slow him down for the rest of his career so it'll be interesting to see where exactly in the draft he goes. We're also meant to be interested in Harry McKay if he falls to us, be happy if we got him since he's meant to be a ruck/fwd (Pods and Osborn out so we need some more KP depth).
