    2015 Injury List

Was mentioned briefly on chat during the weekend (and I guess throughout this fantasy season) but injury lists seem to be so much fuller then they've been in the past. I believe Twarby said they were well up from the previous few years, does anyone have any reason as to why they've gone up so much? Is it because interchange numbers are dropping? I'm not so sure it's that myself because I thought we'd be seeing more soft-tissue injuries if that was the reason yet I don't think we are.

Can probably use this thread to put up the weekly injury lists if we want (this is last weeks injury list)

    Re: 2015 Injury List

Concussion awareness certainly is a part of it. It feels like 50% of the subs made these days are concussion related.

Rule changes probably haven't helped either over the last few years, interchange and sub vest creating more stress on the players, tired players don't land as gracefully and are more likely to get caught unaware which increases the knee/ankle and collision type injury risk as well as the obvious stress related injuries from tiredness alone. Not being allowed to protect teammates in marking contests obviously makes them inherently riskier (though I can't think of an injury as a result yet thankfully). No sliding to contests might protect against very specific injuries that have happened but has also meant that players aren't allowed to protect themselves from a whole range of other injuries (including the aforementioned concussions).

Perhaps also the umpires interpretations and AFL instructions to reward players playing for free kicks is at the forefront. The amount of players who put themselves at risk to try and win free kicks is escalating rapidly because the reward is being offered by the AFL. Saw it in the Swans game when Hannebery lead with his head at Vince to try and win a free kick instead of protecting himself and nearly ended up with a broken neck as a result (and the worst part was hearing that it was somehow Vince's fault... idiotic media. Saw it also with Monfries who stuck his head out to try and get high contact and nearly ended up dead as a result yesterday instead of again, protecting himself. The AFL has limited the ways players can protect themselves (see May suspension as a classic example of one player bracing for impact and the other recklessly throwing himself at the pill and the AFL's position on the matter...) and is blatantly rewarding those who put themselves at unnecessary risk and you have an explanation for a lot of the injuries. Rockliff or Dale Thomas who were both hurt because they wanted a free kick more than protecting themselves as perfect examples.

Outside of that though, it's probably just luck as much as anything.

Said it earlier in the season but feels like we have just continued on from the last 1/3 of 2014.
Really get the feeling we may not be able to complete or sides with 22 genuine premiums this year and will have to use/save a lot more trades for injuries.

In the past from about R15/16 you could get away having only 3/4 trades left but reckon this year you may have to budget at least 1 trade per remaining round.

It's been a crazy start to the season that's for sure.

My RDT has taken a belting and a half with Injuries & a few bans (J.Kelly, Deledio, Bartel, Rockliff,Ablett, + Hodge & Lewis) so my trades are running lower then most i think if i got to R15/16 with one trade left a round i would take that

Could also be that footy depts and medical staff are much more cautious than they used to be. Happier to rest players with minor injuries that they would've otherwise played through.

That said, the pace and the intensity of the game just lifts 10-15% each year and each preseason is harder than the last. It's understandable that there are more injuries.

Quite possible although it feels like a number of these injuries are 2-3+ weeks.

Possible that they could be played through maybe, feels like we've had a bad run but we've been lucky to avoid injuries to our most important players in our side so far.

It only took you half an hour to have an effect. Close to a record.

I'm more talking Tex/Jacobs/Talia, remove any one of them and we'll be a basket case. Obviously Sloane is a big loss, but at least we've got some kind of midfield depth in the seconds.
