    Match Review Panel (MRP)

Thought I'd just create a thread to post the weekly MRP findings and subsequent discussion.

    Rd 3:

Yarran: Referred directly to the tribunal. For this to occur, the incident has been seen as intentional conduct and high impact to the head. This would put the starting point for suspension at 3 weeks.

Sloane $1500 first offence as melee instigator.
S.Thompson, N.Jones, Kent, Vince can all accept $1500 fines for melee(2nd offence)
Jenkins, Jaensch, Walker, JKH can all accept $1000 fines for melee(1st offence)

    Incidents assessed and cleared:
Mummy on Laidler - Not satisfied a reportable offence had occurred
Gibbs on Goddard - Free kick paid downfield and force not sufficient for a report
Carlisle on Wright - Contesting ball and no reasonable alternative.

Same penalty as Ballas got for contesting the football (he got 2 weeks with early plea).

I know which one I think is a blight on the game.

Pretty lenient I would have thought.

Not really fair to compare with Balla as his would've only been 1 week if not for his bad record.

Re: Match Review Panel (MRP) 2015

It was 4 weeks down to 3 because of his good record :-

Yarran's case was sent straight to the Tribunal by the Match Review Panel after being graded intentional conduct, high impact and high contact. The Blues' half-back pleaded guilty at the start of the hearing at AFL House and received a one-match discount as a result from the jury of Wayne Henwood, Richard Loveridge and new member Daniel Harford.

Balla has a bad existing record hence no discount. For what it is worth, I thought Balla was stiff - Taylor milked the impact for sure.

OK, 4 to 3 as opposed to 2 to 3 makes more sense. Initially, I didn't think they discounted Yarran's.

4 weeks is acceptable I guess.
This post was more than likely SC based.
If in doubt, assume it was.

Re: Match Review Panel (MRP) 2015

Was interesting to hear Chapman's comments on it, certainly didn't stick to the 'player code' as such that they usually have, not that I've got any problem for that, just wasn't afraid to speak his mind - guess it's pretty hard to help Yarran much at all even if you wanted to.

Not sure being king hit comes under the player code, but anyway.

Think our definition of a king hit differs quite a bit.

Obviously have no issues with him whatsoever by not sticking with it (think it's pretty stupid to begin with although we all love when it helps get one of our players off), just found it interesting given how much they tend to stick to it.

Re: Match Review Panel (MRP) 2015

I also wouldn't call it a king hit but that's not really the issue at hand anyway. I think 4 weeks would have been adequate. In the scheme of a minor jumper punch to the jaw and Barry Hall its in the middle which is what he got.

The biggest issue I had with it was the image it portrays for the game. We just don't want those kind of acts in our game. Times have changed.

FYI Andrew Moore just copped 3 weeks for this in the SANFL. The same as C Yarran.

Agreed although to be fair, it's not a very common occurrence in our game either thankfully.

I would say 4 weeks would put anyone off doing it but it's not as if those that do something like Yarran did would be thinking of the consequences before they do it in the first place and he's received fairly negative press from what I've seen/heard.

Re: Match Review Panel (MRP) 2015

Seriously? All I've seen is a passionate defence of "Yaz". "He's a ball player", "he was provoked", "it wasn't a big hit" etc.

He punched a bloke in the head 100m from the ball, and caused him to have a concussion test. There's no provocation for that which doesn't see Chapman suspended as well. The fact that this wasn't looked upon similarly to the Vickery, Solomon, Hall snipes of previous years is an indictment.
