He did say it was between Laverde, Duggan and Weller, which is exactly the same 3 that EQ suggested

I'd take that 2-3 combo any day of the week.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Just realised he has Langford sliding until 23. Think it would be odd for Essendon to draft two players of a similar type with 17 and 20 (has us with smalls Garlett and Miller). Would've thought a small and a tall/utility (Langford/Marchbank/Lamb) would be better fits personally

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Alright so I've had a bit of spare time today and I've gone through all the phantoms and twitter accounts of the leading draft reporters from the last week. Herald Sun, AFL, IF, The Age and a few others.

This is an outline of who has been "linked" to each pick, with the pick listed first the most likely selection.

    2014 AFL Draft.docx

So working through this, and I've tried to focus on comments such as "Club x are keen on Player y" rather than "player y would be a good fit at club x", it would seem that the consensus as of now is:

    1 - STK- McCartin
    2 - MEL - Petracca
    3 - MEL - Brayshaw
    4 - GWS - Pickett
    5 - COL - De Goey
    6 - GWS - Ahern
    7 - GWS - Goddard/Marchbank/Lever/Wright
    8 - GCS - Duggan
    9 - COL - Moore
    10 - GEEL - Goddard/Wright/Durdin/Lever
    11 - WCE - Laverde
    12 - RIC - Ellis
    13 - FRE - Lever/Durdin/Wright/Laverde/Goddard/Marchbank
    14 - ADL - Langford/Lever/Marchbank/Wright
    15 - GCS - Garlett/Langford
    16 - NM - Cockatoo
    17 - ESS - Garlett
    19 - CARL - Marchbank

and beyond it becomes very difficult.

The problem is that clubs 11-19 all have Weller as a second choice, so all it takes is one club to break that order and everything changes. Hopefully Emma is onto whatever GWS are up to with Pick 7, which should help to confirm Picks 10, 13 and 14 which are the real mysteries at the point.

I'll update this tomorrow with the official release of Brett Anderson and Emma Quayle's mocks

Assuming we get some solid info from those two, is anyone submitting combinations for the BF draft prize this year (2.5k?)

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

    nice Bunga.

Just to expand, Emma said she thinks 7 is still fairly up in the air with Goddard & Ahern or Goddard & Laverde the likely 6 & 7s. Wright also some chance to go to the Giants.

The killers for that NAB pick the top 10 comp are going to be the back to back picks of Melbourne 2 & 3 and GWS 6 & 7. Getting the players in the right order is going to be tough...

Brett Anderson on Twitter concurring with the others, saying he is now leaning toward McCartin for #1. His phantom is meant to be out later today on the SEN site.

Same thing happened a couple of years ago with trying to get Stringer and Macrae in the right order, as well as the 2nd/3rd pick from GWS that year as well.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

I was planning on slotting Goddard in at 7 on my entry, it's rather annoying that I have to bank on getting back to back picks in the right order. Not that I'll nail them all anyway.

Or the year when GWS had the entire top 5, that would have been fun.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

These video clips seem to be becoming the norm for print and internet based journalism. Already seen AFL site have an a series of clips with Twomey and Nat Edwards and the HS regularly do video discussions as well, covering everything from SC to drafting. I imagine it's not something they all want to do and Emma seemed pretty nervous but that's the way it seems to be going.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

HS running with McCartin #1 also

ST KILDA is expected to land blue-chip key forward Paddy McCartin with its first pick in tomorrow night’s national draft.

In what was a tight call for the Saints’ recruiting team, it is understood the 194cm goalkicker has got the nod over explosive midfielder Christian Petracca.

McCartin has been likened to superstar Jarryd Roughead for his contested marking and smarts around goal while the Saints are also fans of his natural competitiveness and lead-up marking.

It is understood the gun Geelong Falcon will be unveiled as the No.1 choice at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre at 7pm Melbourne time.

It means Melbourne is poised to gleefully add the two best midfielders from this year’s pool with picks 2 and 3, packaging Petracca up with inside beast Angus Braysaw.

Would be great if the Saints fed all the media McCartin at #1 and then on the night read out Petracca's name whilst wearing

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Just over 24hrs to go. There really is no better non-match day than draft day each year. Every team apparently is a big winner and no one ever expected that player to last until that pick. Personally I'm watching highlights of those players expected to go from 20 onwards in the hope that I can find something good about each one to hang onto if and when we draft them.
