No surprises in that lot and you can expect the top 10 to come from that lot since they like to present the top 10 on draft night.
Langford actually not going. The Age updated the story online to remove him from those named.

    No Cockatoo?

WCE reportedly still deciding between him & Weller at pick 11 - would be very happy with either to be honest.

I would guess that Cockatoo isn't in the top 10 calculations (who get presented on stage) and that's why he's not invited, but he'd be up there with the next one or two on the list who would have been.

They don't still do that ridiculous countdown from 10-1 do they?

No, they got rid of that after a couple of years. For an example of how the early part of the draft is done, here is last year's draft coverage in full with the first pick happening at around the 14min mark.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

A change this year is that rookie upgrades are not going to be read out on draft night. In total there are 87 picks listed for Thursday night's draft with 12 of them being father-son or academy players already locked in place.

Final order can be seen here http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-2...al-draft-order

Likely to be breaks after top 10, first round, second round and third round. Could also be one more after 4th round or 4th onwards being joined together.

Of the 75 "live" selections available, I would expect around 60-65 to be used.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Few of the questions and responses from EQ
    http://www.theage.com.au/afl/trading...25-11t95x.html

What are you hearing regarding these rumours that McCartin will be taken with Pick 1? Is Petracca now out of the picture for St.Kilda?

    Plenty
It'll be one of them but I don't think they'll tell either boy so hopefully it's a surprise for them on the night. Must have been a very tough call for the Saints, they're both fantastic prospects.
At the minute what is the top 5 as far as you see it?

In alphabetical order: Brayshaw, De Goey, McCartin, Petracca, Pickett. Might change my mind by this time tomorrow though
    Hi Emma,
Pick 11 for West Coast is an intriguing pick.
It is highly unlikely that West Coast will select a tall. Most probably West Coast will be selecting the best midfielder who falls at their pick.
There are a number of players who fit this bill - Pickett, Leverde, Weller, Duggan, De Goey, Ahern and Cockatoo being the most likely candidates to go at pick 11.
Assuming Pickett is not available what do you think the chances are of the others being available and who do you think would best suit West Coast's deficiencies?

I think you've nailed the players and I think it might come down to Laverde, Duggan and Weller. Laverde would be nice fit on Subiaco and complement their group, as would Weller as an outside runner. But they may like one of the others better. Duggan is pretty good in most areas too.
    Hi Emma.
Hi Emma, who is your best bet to be there at #14 for the Crows? Thanks

It's a little open. I think guys like Lever, Maynard, Langford, Durdin will be around the mark. Wright too, if he gets there.
Who have you narrowed down Geelong's first pick to? Also interested to know whether you have heard of any players touted for our later picks. Thanks Emma

Hi Mark, I think De Goey and Wright are big considerations there, Duggan too, and the key defenders (Goddard, Durdin, Lever)
    Hi Emma,
Given that GWS hold the key to the order with their picks is there any indication who they are favouring?

Hi Andy. There's been a bunch of names linked to them - Pickett, Ahern, Goddard, Marchbank, Laverde, Wright. Hopefully in another 24 hours I will have worked it out

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Really have no idea who Adelaide are likely to grab at this stage, partly because there's so little idea of who will be going with the picks beforehand but there also being a number of options regardless who is picked before #14. Should be an interesting draft, I think it starts at 7.30 right? Got a basketball match at 7.10 so by 8.10 or so they'll probably be done or at the end of the draft when I get a chance to check it out.

Twomey has no "contacts" with regards to WCE - pure guesswork with our picks. I highly doubt we would take Duggan ahead of Laverde/Weller or Cockatoo personally.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Seems everyone is starting to agree on top 5 picks.

    1. McCartin
    2-3 Petracca, Brayshaw (order?)
    4. Pickett
    5. De Goey

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

^ I would agree with the top 5 consensus.

Think GWS will take a tall defender with either pick 6 or 7 (Goddard or Durdin) & a midfielder with class type with the other pick (Ahern/Duggan/Ellis/Weller/Laverde).
