They're suggesting that Wright could fall as far as Essendon's first pick.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Two weeks out from the draft now, from memory last year the three journo's giving the best info/potential contacts on the draft were Quayle, Brett Anderson and Sam Landsberger.

Haven't seen anything from Emma in regards to a mock, this is a compilation of info from Brett, Sam and a few other places.

I've bolded the ones that seem to make the most sense to me.

    1. STK - Petracca
    2. MELB - Brayshaw - these two seem locked in
3 - MELB - McCartin or Lever - consensus seems to be that these are the only guys in the equation with McCartin the preferred option
4 - GWS - McCartin, Lever, Laverde or DeGoey - seems to depend on whether they think Laverde gets past Collingwood
5 - COLL - Laverde, DeGoey - Seems that pies are keen for a bigger bodied mid, preferring Laverde if available. Langford a similar sort of player so might rise up in the next few weeks
6 & 7 - GWS - Lever, Goddard, DeGoey or Pickett are the ones linked to these picks, could see pick 7 being used on a bolter though considering how many picks they have. Wright has dropped dramatically in the last few weeks but if they miss out on McCartin
8 - GC - Pickett, Langford, Weller, best available midfielder for this pick
10 - GEEL - Lever, Wright, DeGoey, Duggan are who they've been linked to, Pickett would have to be right up there as well. Same as Goddard if he got past GWS
11 - WCE - Pickett, Cockatoo, Ahern are who they've been linked to, would have to imagine Weller is would be on the cards as well. Tend to pick WA based players so Blakely not without a chance. Strong rumours of late regarding Cockatoo however
12 - RICH - DeGoey, Duggan, Ellis, Weller, Blakely best available midfielder really
13 - FREM - Durdin, Goddard are the only two linked here, if Peter Wright got past Geelong he'd be a big chance too surely
14 - ADEL - Durdin, Goddard, Wright, Marchbank - Reports suggest they'll be going tall here, Maynard? was also apparently in calculations
15 - GC - Langford, Cockatoo, Garlett - Might be able to let Langford slide to 15, again Weller should be in the mix
16 - NOR - Cockatoo, Ahern, Garlett - Cockatoo trained with NM and they are reportedly big fans
17 - ESS - Weller, Wright, Ahern, Lamb - Harder to nail down picks as the draft gets deeper but if the first three were on the table they'd jump surely

From there it becomes a bit of a crapshoot. Given how frequently the order changes, no doubt one of the top 6 or 7 slides into the teens and a mid 20s pick shoots into top 10 calculation. Emma releases her mock soon because she's consistently got the closest.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Think Emma usually releases hers the day before the draft?

Also, read a little about McKenzie on the Adelaide board and I think he'd be a good fit as well for our first pick. I don't think he's expected to go quite that early but most likely won't be there for our pick #35. Seen it suggested he's a big contested mark whose rather quick and it might have been his first year playing after previously playing basketball?

Don't know much about him but I think we've got a big need to get a forward that can crash a pack, take a contested mark/at least make a contest out of it given Tex is better on the lead. So whilst Wright is obviously a strong option in his own right if he is there at our pick, one of the question marks on him is his ability to take a contested mark which is what we need.

Will be an interesting draft and I've really got no idea who we're likely to pick at this stage.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Emma's phantom is usually a day or two before, from memory she releases a "Top 25" with prospects ranked in her own order a week or two out, but she usually has a pretty good idea of which clubs are into which players.

McKenzie is the subject of quite a serious debate on the BF D&T board, Knightmare took him at 5 in the Bigfooty phantom so clearly rates him highly, Chris who is the other big dog over there doesn't rate him at all, thinks he's one dimensional, tested well for pace but doesn't use it when he plays and isn't agile at all. You're right in that he probably won't be there for 35 but 14 would be a reach. If he's coming into first round calculations we'll probably hear more about it soon enough.

Links to some "Top x" list of players.

    Cal Twomey Top 30 http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-1...ber-update-afl
Includes a video of himself and Nat Edwards going through the list and highlighting a few along the way.

    Emma Quayle Top 30 http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-new...15-11nfn5.html

Both of these are personal rankings, not where they will be drafted.

    Pickett firming for pick 4.

Brett Anderson suggesting the top 4 is likely to be Petracca, Brayshaw, McCartin & Pickett.

Pies still likely to choose either Laverde/De Goey at 5. Goddard to GWS with one of 6 or 7.

That's a bit of a rise to what has been expected, who does that mean they're likely to pass up on? I think that means Lever will drop more than excepted?

Seems to be the hardest draft to pick in a number of years, not that I've followed it all that closely.

    Brett Anderson @BrettAndersonIF · 16h

Jake Lever won't be heading to Dees at pick 3. Would have loved them to take him, but now GWS/Geel/Rich seem likely destinations. #AFLDraft
He was saying on SEN that Lever definitely still possible for GWS at 6/7 along with Goddard. Just whether they want another small.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

GWS are very keen on Pickett, have identified that they really need his line breaking pace. Apparently the pies have shown interest in Pickett hence GWS look like taking him at 4 incase Pies pounce at 5. GWS have picks 6 & 7 so can take Lever at either of those picks with the pies likely to take Laverde or De Goey at 5 if Pickett is gone.

Everything I am hearing re WCE is we will either take Cockatoo or Weller with pick 11 - both of them look outstanding midfield prospects, think Cockatoo is the preferred option if still on the board at 11.

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

Twitter forum with recently departed St Kilda Head of Football Chris Pelchen
    https://twitter.com/AFLDraft/with_replies

    Couple of the responses:

    On Eagles' first pick:
.@Wakey1995 Cockatoo, Langford or possibly Weller #PelchenTakeover

    Essendon:
.@maddypattison_ I would say Weller, Ahern or Lamb #PelchenTakeover

    Richmond:
.@EsCargot23 Corey (Ellis) is very unlikely to get past Richmond at pick 12. He is an outstanding kick and while cruisey, has genuine talent.

    Geelong:
.@osama_hag Probably depends if Wright gets through, but more likely to be deciding between Durdin, Goddard, Langford and Ahern.

on Adelaide and if they are likely to pick Maynard:
.@MRB37 Unlikely, despite his obvious talent. More likely to be looking at Durdin, Lever or possibly even Langford #PelchenTakeover

Also thinks GWS will go for a tall and a medium with 6 & 7 rather than Lever & Goddard together (he too thinks Pickett at #4)

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

I've had a look at the trends in Emma Quayle's past 4 mocks to see if she has particular success with certain clubs.

Her most impressive results are GWS and GC.

    GWS:
10/11 in 2011 (Had Longer instead of Greene)
    5/5 in 2012
2.5/3 in 2013 (Missed McCarthy, but had Lobb there who GWS took anyway)

    GC:
7/8 in 2010 (gave Prestia to Essendon over Heppell)
1/1 in 2011 (Schade at 24, very impressive)
    1/1 in 2012 and 2013

She's also nailed every Richmond and Calrton pick since 2010.

She hasn't got a single North pick right.

Does anyone think these are just coincidence's or does she get varying levels of detail from each club?

Emma Quayle gets very good mail, is well respected in the footy industry - really does her homework as to what each club is looking for then as the draft gets closer she is able to narrow it down to a select few players that each club wants.

She releases her draft the day before the actual draft giving her maximum time to know exactly which club is taking which player. Her accuracy over the years is quite amazing & always look forward to seeing her predictions each year.

I'd say she probably got Luke McDonald right

Richmond are normally very predictable. Conca aside, they've generally been linked heavily with whoever they actually select a lot way out. Vlaustuin a couple of years ago and then Lennon last year. This year looks like being similar with Duggan and Ellis pretty much the two guys that are there.

She certainly has great contacts though. It's not a coincidence that she's pretty much the top of everyone's list when it comes to respected afl journos

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft Thread

WEST Australian Blaine Boekhorst shapes as the first mature-age player picked at next week's NAB AFL Draft, with the midfielder in top-30 contention.

The 21-year-old, who played 19 of 20 games this season for Swan Districts, flew to Melbourne this week to undergo a medical test for clubs at AFL House.

He had been due to go on a fishing trip near Broome, but instead was under the microscope of clubs, having had significant attention in the lead-up to the draft.

Boekhorst is believed to have attracted the interest of Collingwood and Carlton, with Fremantle another club linked to the 184cm on-baller.

He averaged 21 disposals for Swan Districts and impressed with his run and carry and speed, and was invited to test at the West Australian state draft combine in October.

He spent three seasons as a fringe player for Swan Districts – playing a total of just 25 WAFL games – but improved considerably this season to be seen as a second-round pick in the eyes of many scouts.

Boekhorst was one of 12 players to have a medical on Tuesday, among them likely early draft selections Christian Petracca, Angus Brayshaw, Jake Lever and Peter Wright.

The medical assessments came following requests from clubs and were organised by the League, who tightened procedures around interviews, medicals and testing by clubs last year.

This year's national draft is unlikely to see many state league players find AFL homes, with Frankston's Nick Newman considered one of the better chances out of the VFL.
    http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-11-2...utm_medium=RSS

Boek-er face certainly one to watch from a fantasy perspective. Not a crazy scorer with a 76 DT average for the season, but should be ready to go.
