It's certainly a risk but his body held up quite well this year in a less physically demanding role. I think it will struggle to hold up as a midfielder but playing across half back or half forward might allow him to get a few seasons in.

Ah ok you sure? I read it as we end up with the compensation pick Melbourne get for losing Frawley, not Frawley himself. @hedgehog can shed some light?

Yeah that's the frawley compo going to collingwood (pick 3), not frawley himself.

Frawley/Higgins etc. move via the free agency mechanism, so they don't need to be traded and that's why i didn't include them.

Just a bump to remind people that after a few days of celebration for Hawthorn, the silly season starts this week with the Draft Combine from Tues-Fri. Also on Friday is the beginning of the FA period with the academy and father-son bidding to occur next Monday (6th) before the start of the official trade period.

Yeah this will probably be the best part of the Adelaide 2014 season coming up so far.

Of course, with some underwhelming moves it could have all the supporters cracking it, but at the moment, plenty of optimism that a few tweaks could have us in the right direction.

Hoping we sign a coach next week (or the following at the latest) so we can make some list changes/target some players the coach may want etc.

It will be the worst part of our season if we trade Dangerfield.

Any hope of an on field revival lives and dies in this trade period.

At the same time, if we don't trade him then I've got a feeling he'll re-sign this off-season - I'd still give him until the end of next year if he said he wasn't sure yet either way. I'm pretty confident that Dangerfield will stay, but we first need a new coach to prove to him that it's worth him sticking around.

Is it coincidence that the three most talked about potential player moves in Beams, Ryder and Danger all have the same manager?

    Re: 2014 AFL Draft/Trade Thread

Apparently Carlton are getting Jones and Jaksch.

Assuming Jones costs nothing (apart from a spot on the list), I'm happy with him coming to the club. While some would argue he can't even get into the Bulldogs team who are desperate for key forwards, he basically has to be the #1 target in that team, whereas at least Hendo would be ahead of him for the best defender. Maybe he's had a falling out with Mccartney too?

Obviously any team in need of a forward would be happy with Jaksch, hopefully don't have to give up too much for him (I heard something about a downgrading of first round pick, with O'Rourke to the Roos, not sure how keen I'd be on trading Pick 6 to Pick 14 or whatever but it's probably ok if we have someone in mind, and if Jaksch is any good)

Think it's pretty clear Waite is gone then.

I'm not sure if I like the strategy though. On the one hand you're not putting all your eggs in one basket. If Jones doesn't make it, maybe Jaksch will. On the other hand it seems a bit like you're not really confident in either and you're just picking them both up because they're there and fill a need.

You'd think Henderson and Casboult play forward Round 1 next year, so unless Jaksch is earmarked for Buckley's third tall back role, you're essentially recruiting one of them to play reserves. Not a great sales pitch.

Well you're not going to want to recruit Jones to be a crucial cog. He's lucky if anyone takes him imo. Certainly wouldn't want my club trading for him. He should be a delisted free agent.

Jaksch on the otherhand can play at both ends. If he isn't a first choice forward, he allows something like the Hurley and Carlisle combination that we have, in partnership with Henderson which could be very handy.
