    Mid-year AA team

Because everyone else is doing one. I think it's a perma-ban for anyone who has Tom Langdon in theirs though

B: Jack Hombsch - Daniel Talia - Michael Hibberd
HB: Brodie Smith - Cale Hooker - Nick Malceski
C: Kade Simpson - Scott Pendlebury - Danyle Pearce
HF: Brent Harvey - Jack Gunston - Robbie Gray
F: Luke Breust - Jay Schulz - Tom Hawkins
R: Aaron Sandilands - Dayne Beams - Gary Ablett
I: Matthew Lobbe - Nathan Jones - Josh P Kennedy - Brad Ebert

I reserve the right to have completely forgotten an obvious lock.

    ADE - 2
    CAR - 1
    COL - 2
    ESS - 2
    FRE - 2
    GEE - 1
    GCS - 1
    HAW - 2
    MEL - 1
    NM - 1
    POR - 5
    SYD - 2

Coin toss. Three standout rucks, two spots. Any combination of the three would have been acceptable.

Don't think it's unreasonable for the team two games clear on top to dominate the AA team. You don't get to that position without having players stand out.

I don't think it's unreasonable at all for Port to have the most. Robbie Gray would be one of my first (if not the first given his position) I would pick. Happy with Ebert and Schulz too.

But the inclusion of Hombsch is a highly optimistic one. Looks as though he's competing for KPD/3rd tall. It's a tough ask saying he is more deserving than May or SDT or Mackenzie even if you are picking a player exclusively for the 3rd tall role.

Personally I don't think Lobbe has been exceptional either. He would be back in the pack of ruckmen who have been reasonable with Minson and Cox imo. Sandi and Jacobs clearly top 2 imo.

Boak much more deserving from Port than either of those two again imo. Harder to break into the midfield group, but he has lead that midfield superbly.

Picked two pure outside players on the wings. I hate the "17 clearance mids and 5 talls" teams.

    Re: Mid-year AA team

B - Ted Richards - Has been as good as ever this year and part of the leagues 2nd best defense.
B - Cale Hooker - Has not been beaten this year to any decent level. Has become an outstanding player.
B - Nick Smith - Has been better than ever as the lockdown small defender. Hasn't been beaten all year.
HB - Kade Simpson - Really growing into the role though does play higher a fair bit this year. Has been good defensively, especially as an intercept player and is as good as anyone with ball in hand.
HB - Eric MacKenzie - Has been the standout defender in a side that has been relatively poor, well beaten by Roughy on the weekend did cause a little doubt!
HB - Brodie Smith - Has probably been Adelaide's best player this year. His rebound work and ability to run and carry is exceptional. Perhaps it's just having so many other exploitable teammates but is rarely exposed defensively despite his aggressive running as well.
C - Scott Pendlebury - Playing as well as he ever has, just an elite player.
C - Nathan Jones - Has had an absurdly good year for mine and deserves the nod.
C - Steve Johnson - Last couple of weeks have made his position a lot more precarious but gave him the nod as his early form was outstanding.
HF - Robbie Gray - Has finally put it all together and is having a blinder of a season
HF - Nick Riewoldt - Has had perhaps his best season, slowed by injury of late and may not hold on from the fast closing Buddy but he has it at the halfway mark.
HF - Brent Harvey - Still got it, still has the same flaws he has had for 20 years but still has more than enough positives to outweigh them completely.
F - Luke Breust - Has been the best small/mid sized forward this year for mine
FF - Jay Schulz - Has been a consistent threat at Full Forward.
F - Jack Gunston - Was very tempted to go with an additional small here but decided to go traditional structure, think a few of the smalls may well have outplayed him.
Ru - Aaron Sandilands - Not really any doubt about it for me, back to his dominant best and no one else has really been that close.
Ro - Gary Ablett - Best player in the league.
RR - Josh Kennedy - The competition's elite clearance player, probably playing the best footy of his career right now

Int - Joel Selwood - Elite midfielder having a great season.
Int - Dayne Beams - Ditto
Int - Shaun Burgoyne - His versatility is what wins him this spot over a few others. Has been elite as a defender, forward and midfielder this year. Has slowed a bit the past couple of weeks.
Int - James Bartel - Same as Burgoyne, his versatility and elite performance in multiple positions gets him the nod ahead of a few more prolific guys.

    Unlucky Misses

    Backs

Scott Thompson - Only room for 3 talls and he was 4th on my list.
Josh Gibson - Injury and projected games missed, he was the only genuine 3rd tall that I considered ahead of other teams #1s
Dane Rampe - Has been outstanding but Smith has been better (really just giving him some love here!)
Heath Shaw - Has been excellent for the Giants, has perhaps been his best season this year.
Joel Patful - In an awful team he has been a rock, don't think he has been beaten, also very close to pipping Richards and really his versatility he is a truer 3rd tall if I went more traditional.
Andrew Mackie - Has been very good but preferred a few others.
Michael Hibberd - My next picked small defender. Has improved again this year.
Alan Toovey - Elite shutdown player for mine and my pick of the Pies small/mid defenders.
Lynden Dunn - Has been excellent when played in defense, like Patful he has been rarely beaten in a pretty weak side and beats whoever he gets.
Nick Malceski - Having his best season yet.
Stephen May - Having an outstanding season, just played his best game yet so certainly in contention over the 2nd half.

    Midfielders

Jobe Watson - Ruled out by injury but would have made it on his performance to date.
Tom Rockliff - Has missed a couple of games and is still more DT impact than real impact for mine.
Travis Boak - Very close but missed a couple and had a few quiet games.
Brad Ebert - Was probably in it a month ago but has slipped off a fair bit.
Tom Liberatore - At the pace he is closing he will be in the final side.
Dyson Heppell - Similar to Rockliff for mine in that he is a better DTer than actual player right now.
Dion Prestia - Just ran out of spots for the meatball.
Nick Dal Santo - Very close also, has had an excellent season.
Callan Ward/Adam Treloar - Both have had outstanding years, again a little bit more DT than reality but both are very close for mine.
Matty Stokes - Has quietly put together a pretty damn elite season.
Marc Murphy - Having a very good season but just not imposing himself enough to beat the guys ahead of him.
Luke Parker - Mancrush alert, playing too much midfield to get in as a forward for me and isn't yet good enough as a midfielder to get in but he is very close!
Jarrad McVeigh - Same as Parker, isn't making the cut as a midfielder and doesn't play enough either forward or back to qualify in those spots, has a strong case against Burgoyne and Bartel for those "versatile" spots.
Patrick Dangerfield - Same as Parker really.

    Forwards

Tom Hawkins - Second at FF behind Schulz for mine.
Lance Franklin - Second at CHF and closing.
Chad Wingard - Has been prolific in front of goal for a small forward but not doing enough around the ground to beat the above.
Dustin Martin - Played a bit all over the ground and hasn't kicked enough goals.
Jamie Elliott - Has had an excellent season as a small forward and just missed out.
Devon Smith - Similar to Elliott, needs to be a bit more consistent (hard in a poor team).

    Final cut has...

    Adelaide - 1
    Carlton - 1
    Collingwood - 2
    Essendon - 1
    Fremantle - 1
    Geelong - 3
    Gold Coast - 1
    Hawthorn - 3
    Melbourne - 1
    North - 1
    Port - 2
    St Kilda - 1
    Sydney - 3
    West Coast - 1

I'm sure there is some glaring omission...

Look at teams.. glaring omission Fyfe... though I'd say he is just outside in the midfield for me still.

How about your boy for 2014?
