Gastro has gone through the Brisbane team. Rocky a victim.

    North will annihilate them today.

Probably better that he was out rather than played like zorko. Fmdt, can't even trade zorko now, value is shot.

Just saw all the discussion above.

Hurley is physically incapable of playing forward anymore. His wrists and ankles are shot, so he needs to play behind the ball where he's not expected to mark the ball running at 100mph and he doesn't need to turn on a dollar to get to the ball kicked over his head.

Every decision must be built around the fact that he must play in defence.

If its that bad they need to move on from Hurley, he is costing you games. He is not good enough as a back.

Yep if it's that bad then the team would be better in the long run with Carlisle in defence and Hurley left right out. There's just nothing working for the bombers at the moment basically. changes need to happen. You don't mould a team structure around an injured player.

Carlisle has what, 6 goals from 9 games? Yet he just about looked AA standard in defence last year. They have Ryder/Bellcho, Daniher and Ambrose as tall targets, it's just stubborn to keep trying the same failed formula.

So what's the suggestion then? Move Carlisle back at Hurley's expense, play three very similar key defenders and have a gaping hole up forward? Great coaching lads.

    Re: Teams Round 9

The gaping hole up forward exists with or without Carlisle, there are enough tall targets up there anyway (Ryder/Bellcho, Daniher and Ambrose). Basically the bombers are playing two guys out of position for the sake of one guy's playing hopes who apparently can never play forward again.

But no, please carry on and build the teams spine around a bloke who's apparently injured beyond repair, I enjoy seeing the bombers in the bottom half of the ladder.

All the very best forwardlines are built around a ruckman, a second year player and a first year player.

Then play him in the magoos where he will have a positive impact on the games. Carlisle is a flat out better defender and has the potential to make that gap even further (especially if Hurley's body is so shot that he can't play forward). If Hurley isn't capable of being a forward and isn't in your 3 best KP defenders then really he should only be playing AFL against the teams that go in with 4 talls so that he can have a matchup that works.

It's not working and Hurley is the weakness that teams are exploiting. Sydney isolated him against Buddy, the Saints isolated against Riewoldt and Freo against Pav, Pies even did it with Jesse White to great effect (that game turned when they started going to that matchup instead of Cloke v Hooker). Every team is going to start doing it because Hurley just isn't very good. He offers more to the team as a gimpy forward, his style of forward is completely lacking right now and even if he is more decoy than target he is the type that will create the space behind for everyone else to fill into.

Change that to a 3rd year player with 20 games experience and LRT and you have the Swans GF winning forward line... Forward lines should be built on structure, the Bombers do not have a repeat leading space creator in their forward line so you have each guy fill what available space there is and then stand in it or turn and jog back to the square for a long kick that rarely works in the modern game.

There are other issues with the Bombers, no doubt there, but the forwardline is insanely stagnant and they have a KP defender that teams are isolating because he isn't very good, it's a bad combination for long term success.

Perhaps the bigger issue is that they are destroying Carlisle in the process, there have been a lot of players that never bounce back after getting destroyed the way he is and at the very least Carlisle was an All Australian level defender and has now been reduced to a guy who shouldn't be playing AFL. All this so that another guy who apparently shouldn't be playing AFL can have his moment in the sun?

I have no emotional attachment to any of the players, simply posting on what I've seen over the past two years. What the Bombers are doing would be the equivalent of Sydney playing Sam Reid as our CHB so that Ted Richards can go forward and plod around up there giving us nothing.

Breaking news - Saints try to isolate Riewoldt and Dockers try to isolate Pavlich. Tippett was the deep forward for most of the game, it's just that Hooker had another ridiculous game with 13 spoils on him. The Pies game turned based on the midfield, not Jesse White. I just watched the replay of White's two goals. The first was an arsey one over the back when Cloke (legally) blocked Hurley out of chasing White for the crumb. Not sure how that's a black mark against the key defender. The second was a diving mark right up against the boundary after a Dempsey turnover left Hurley (who running hard to shepherd Dempsey) a fair way off White who didn't go with his man. Saying Hurley was beaten is revisionism, let alone that White was the key factor in that game turning around.

Essendon people are happy with Hurley's performance, and it's hardly a case of bias given we are all well aware of Carlisle's existence. There's more people calling for Fletcher to make way than there are for Hurley to make way.

Carlisle was drafted as a forward, debuted as a forward and played forward late last year to great effect. His performance is 100% attitude based. Moving him back doesn't fix that, and if that's all it takes to fix his attitude, it's a terrible message to send.
