I haven't read a great deal on him, but he seems like he'd be the perfect replacement for a guy like Brad Sewell as that permanent extractor.
He would be the best "pure" extractor in the draft, knock on him is his ball use. Another guy who maybe around at your pick is Nathan Freeman who is an explosive midfielder in the Dangerfield mould - again ball use a slight issue. Either player would be a great fit for your team in my opinion.

Yeah, he's certainly a similar style to Viney/Wines from last year, although he's more Viney's size than Wines' so he'll never big a Watson/JPK type inside midfielder.

    Re: 2013 AFL Draft thread

Crouch's stats from TAC were pretty amazing.

League Rd Team Name K H D M Tk FF FA HO G B DT
    TAC 5 REB Matthew Crouch 28 15 43 6 5 3 2 0 0 4 153
    TAC 6 REB Matthew Crouch 20 12 32 3 6 2 4 0 0 0 107
    TAC 10 REB Matthew Crouch 22 11 33 3 9 4 3 0 0 0 128
    TAC 13 REB Matthew Crouch 22 17 39 4 6 2 0 0 0 2 140
    TAC 14 REB Matthew Crouch 19 14 33 3 6 2 2 0 1 0 120
    TAC 15 REB Matthew Crouch 19 23 42 1 6 2 0 0 0 0 132

Low possession tally of 32. And that is after recovering from multiple injuries.

Also played the one game with North Ballarat in the VFL for 25 touches, which again is fairly excellent.

Looked at his stats last night, certainly were outstandingly good from a ball winning perspective. My only concern was that his kicking was only around 45% effective, compared to 79% for handballs. Also averaged 16 handball receives per game which is a crazy amount, especially given his poor kicking.

it's not a great number, but the TAC (and VFL) stats are fairly notorious for inaccuracy on the efficiency side of things, normally giving lower totals, so may not be as bad as it looks.

    Re: 2013 AFL Draft thread

PROLIFIC midfielder James Tsitas showed his ability with the ball on Thursday as testing continued at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

The 18-year-old was the winner of the kicking test under the roof at Etihad Stadium, by scoring a near perfect 29 out of a possible 30 points.

The test saw each player take six kicks – three on his left foot and three on his right – at short, medium and long distance. Each is rated out of five, with Tsitas only dropping a point on his long left-foot kick, which was judged as a four-pointer.

Six players scored 28 in the test, which was devised by Nathan Buckley in 2009. Another 11 scored 27, highlighting their skill level on both sides of their body.

Three players tied to win the goalkicking test, with Chris Cain, Jarred Ellis and Michael Apeness converting each of their five shots on goal to record perfect scores.

Of the five kicks, three are set shots and the other two are snaps, with the test designed to showcase goalkicking ability under pressure. 17 players kicked four goals.

At 26, Cain is the oldest player at the combine, having enjoyed a strong season with Port Melbourne at VFL level.

As well as his proficiency in the kicking tests, Cain was one of three players to lead the pack in the clean hands test.

Cain, alongside Ben Lennon and Luke Reynolds, scored 24 points of a possible 30. The handball test, run by Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd, sees players make six handballs over three distances using their left and right hands.

Three players – Richard Bourne, Kade Kolodjashnij and Dallas Willsmore – scored 23 points, and another four players were among the top performers with 22 points.

Good to see Chris Cain doing well, following on from Ben Brown earlier in the week.

Should get drafted and could be the mature ager next season

Lions making a big play for McDonald

THE BRISBANE Lions have given a strong hint that they will bid for North Melbourne father-son prospect Luke McDonald, forcing the Kangaroos to use their first NAB AFL Draft selection on the talented teenager.

On Thursday, Lions recruiting manager Stephen Conole said he rated McDonald highly.

"We'd certainly love Luke at our footy club, there's no doubt about that," Conole told AFL.com.au.

"I've seen Luke play a lot since he's been a young 14-year-old out in the Kew area.

"I've always been a big fan, and I'm sure there's a lot of clubs around our selection and just prior who will be interested in putting Luke on their list.

"It will be an interesting morning on Monday morning, I'm sure."

The Lions recently met with McDonald at his Kew home.

    Re: 2013 AFL Draft thread

Where do you guys think Gartlett will go? Will teams take the risk and pick him in the first couple of rounds? Or is he likely to fall again?

If he's around by the time we have our first pick I'd like to see us take the risk, we've got to in the position we're in I believe and for someone with his potential it could pay off very well if we can work through his off field issues.

Give Adelaide about a 0.01% chance of picking him even if he was available though.

    Re: 2013 AFL Draft thread

Very tough to predict Garlett. There are a number of clubs that won't consider him at all and some who will. I can't see anyone using their first round pick and I think the earliest would be a mid-late 2nd round pick. I think there's a good chance that he will be around when Adelaide takes their third pick but it really depends how many clubs are interested and how long they can wait and still get him. It's also quite possible that he only goes as a rookie if no club is really confident.

Won't be picked up in the ND. Was out late the night before the combine and was dumb enough to upload pics on facebook - doubt clubs would take risks with his guy.

Surely a move to an interstate club where he was given a mentor could help him with these problems? Unless there's more to it, just seems a little strange given the amount of talent he's meant to have.
