    Patrick Keane @AFL_PKeane
Commission will retain the discretion to allocation priority picks in exceptional circumstances, with much stricter qualification criteria.

Don't like the sound of discretionary priority picks though. The skeptic inside me wonder if this is will mean that GC and GWS will be getting a fair few of these discretionary picks.

    Surely they won't be though?

I thought the AFL will take into account list shape & considering the amount of first round talent they both have they won't have too great a need for priority picks, especially with their range of compo picks stored up.

Re: AFL scraps Priority Pick System

I'll miss the priority pick. The "are they or are they not" tanking discussion every year was kind of fun. Though removing the priority pick won't stop those articles I guess as long as finishing bottom has a greater reward than finishing second bottom and lazy sports journos need something to write about.

Discretion is a good way to do it though, as a genuinely shit team can still get a leg up without temporarily or deliberately shit teams getting the same benefits.
