1995 James Fantasia was overruled at the draft table and we took Scott Hodges (again) at #44. Fantasia wanted to select Brent Harvey

    yes, that one!

    2003 Trading period

Traded Nathan Brown to Richmond for #6 and #20. Then drafted #19 for Stephen Koops, #20 for Peter Street, Mark Alvey and #6 to Hawthorn for Lachlan Veale so we could get Jade Rawlings #1 in preseason draft.

    So;

    Out: Brown, #19, Alvey
    In: Koops, Street, Veale, Rawlings

#19 went on to be Mundy

16 clubs overlooked pavlich, why is it our problem? we at least got a 150 KPP at 75

We chose Boomer's brother, Shane, instead of Aaron Davey in the pre-season draft.

One that wasn't our fault is Liam Jurrah. We would have taken him in the ND but he didn't nominate in time because he needed to be back home for something.

At the time I thought he was a great player to get but he really struggled, but hey that happens when you need players at the time and he was solid when he was playing at FB for the Hawks before he had issues.

Alvey was a good pick up at the time I thought, he played well but then fell out of favour - he was from the Bendigo Pioneers.

Brown move was a good one because he was a awesome player, but the players didn't come off for the Doggies in that move that's for sure.

2000 Draft - No one remaining
2001 Draft - No one remaining
2002 Draft - Besides Watson and Licha, nothing
    2003 Draft - Only Stanton
    2004 Draft - Only Monfries
2006 Draft - Only Gumby... barely.

Improved from then on, but there is a massive gap of experience in Essendon's list.

We are looking good but just need more games and the players to believe in themselves so 2012 is going to be a big one for many players that could decide their fate. The development of some of the players will have to fast track that's for sure so they bring in out on the field on game day.

The group in 2006 (bolded) are ones who could be on their way out during trades this week too.

Re: Whats the worst trades/drafts in history for your team?

Thought I'd look at the WB list

    1999-Murphy, Gia, Gilbee, Hargrave
    2000-Cross
    2001-Lake, Boyd(rookie)
    2002-Minson
    2003-Cooney
    2004-Griffen, Williams, Morris(rookie)
    2005-Higgins, Addison
    2006-Stack,Hill
    2007-Grant, Reid, Wood, Mulligan(rookie)
    2008-Cordy, Roughead, Jones, Picken(rookie)
    2009-Howard, Tutt, Markovic, Moles(rookie), Hooper(rookie), Panos(rookie), Prato(rookie)
    2010- Wallis, Libba, Schofield, Skinner, Hill, Dahlhaus(rookie), Johannissen(rookie), Barlow(rookie)

Actually looks a little better than I imagined, although we haven't made list changes yet and Addison, Stack, Hill, Reid, Mulligan are all in some trouble which would take out much of 2005-2007.

One of the reasons the Dogs have been so successful for mine is you look at players picked up in 99 draft, they have played well over 200 games most of them - finals for many years and one of the reasons their window was open for the past few seasons. Its going to be big in 2012 for the Dogs to try and make another assault. Geelong is another team as we all know why they are so highly rated and also Collingwood and Hawks with similar players who have played many games for their teams.

Taking a look at that list, the rookie list has proved quite a goldmine for us over the recent years. Probably a reason why I'm happy we will likely have 4 or 5 selections this year in it.

Yep, Gibson was a rookie as well.

At the moment we have 39 players left on our list. 11 of those were taken in the rookie draft.

Interestingly, McKinley is the only player we've traded for (plus Richardson who was pre-listed by GC).

Im surprised no Freo supporters have laid out there clubs worst trade.

As for the Hawks, biggest recent drafting blunders include Ellis (at #3) over Pendles and Mitch Thorp over Ryder. Also getting Beau Dowler at pick 6 after he had been in a car accident and had a shattered pelvis. Great decision that one.

I think Freo gets a bad rap on some of its trades i.e. they became bad with hindsight. but thats the risk.
