Whats the worst trades/drafts in history for your team?

As it's that time of the year teams will want to make some trades to hopefully better their list, I thought it would be a fun thread to discuss whats the worst trades your team has ever made that you regret them ever making.

The other thing is what players you hopefully don't want your coaches/club to make which will mean you will shake your head so much you will wonder what the heck is wrong with your club!

The worst one I always think about is North getting Ben Davies from Collingwood the guy was just a depth player but he was a "dud" - I know we gave up not much for him but still I hate seeing ordinary players coming to my club.

On 12 October 2007, Ben was traded to the Kangaroos in exchange for their round six selection (selection 96 overall). He made his debut for North Melbourne in Round 11 of the 2008 season, against Geelong.

I really hope North doesn't see anything in Jay Neagle from the Bombers that would just piss me off if they did which hopefully doesn't happen which is highly unlikely but still makes you wonder sometimes.

One of the worst first round picks we had was in 2003 when we picked up David Trotter, he was picked by the Kangaroos with their first pick (and #9 overall) in the 2003 draft. In that draft Stanton went at pick 13 and Beau Waters at pick 11. Mundy went at pick 19, Adcock at pick 33, Shane Tuck at pick 73, Michael Rischitelli at pick 61 and Sam Fisher at pick 55.

Trotter was delisted by North Melbourne in October 2007, after playing just the 7 games in 4 years on the Kangaroos' list.

    McGregor over Pavlich

    Reilly over Dal Santo

    Both still give me nightmares.

Trading for Tambling instead of Walker (doubt he would have had the season he just had but still)

Yeah those 2 picks are amazing but hindsight is a wonderful thing and you never know what your going to get from some players.

Yeah at the time I'm pretty sure McGregor was top aged & had a better CV than Pavlich but it still burns.

Gunston over anyone with heart is another one.

Re: Whats the worst trades/drafts in history for your team?

Fremantle's trading mishaps are well documented, I'd say one of our lesser known good ones is:

Steven Koops to the Bulldogs for Pick 19, which we used to take David Mundy.

We also had picks 10 and 12 which we took Ryley Dunn and Ryan Murphy...

I forget exactly what happened for memory in 2000 we were going to draft Kane Cornes at #7 but I'm pretty sure it was Ayres who overruled Fantasia and made us draft Laurence Angwin instead who spent 1 season on our list before been drafted by Carlton in 2002 (rookie draft) and showed up to training on drugs....

Jonathon Hay anyone, Hawthorn really screwed us over on that one. But our recent trading with them has helped easy the pain a tad. Hale for Harper, and Gibbo for Basti/Black.
Steele Sidebottom and Ben Cunnington. My boys for 2012.

Yeah everyone had issues about his character but Ayres went over his head to get Angwin. I'm not sure if Cornes was our intended target but Angwin was one of our super fail picks.

On for us/St kilda was the drafting of Fergus Watts. Pissed off to St Kilda after two years for a first rounder & played about 5 games for them. Was an epic fail for multiple clubs that one.

Re: Whats the worst trades/drafts in history for your team?

We had 3 first rounders in 2000 and picked Daniel Motlop, Dylan Smith and Dan Harris. We did alright in the rest of the draft, picking up Petrie, Corey Jones and Pratt. The only good players in that first round were Riewoldt (1), Didak (3), Burgoyne (12) and Thompson (16). Would have been nice to get at least one of those last 2, though.

Our BEST player out of the 2001 superdraft was David Hale. The misses in that draft set us back a number of years.

The Dave Trotter one in '03 isn't that bad because it was a shocking draft.

For some reason we generally cop shit for trading pick 10 and 26 for Nathan Thompson but he was good for us and there was shit all available anyway. The Hawks did well to upgrade pick 10 to pick 7 where they got Jordan Lewis. For the record, pick 10 was Chis Egan and Pick 26 was Matt Little. The players after those two weren't much chop either.

The pick 18 for Jon Hay trade was obviously a failure but it makes me sick when Hawks fans brag about it. Trading a guy with a mental illness is nothing to be proud of. They picked up Max Bailey with #18. He could still have an AFL career if his body holds up. We wouldn't have taken him because we were set for ruckmen at the time. The other options were Dempsey, Stanley, Cook, Muston, Hughes and Mills. So again, even though the deal looks bad, it didn't really hurt us.

kepler bradley and david myers were pretty awful number 6 draft picks as well. i know im going early on gumbleton and its a massive call but for a pick 2 if he doesnt show anything next year that will go down as a poor draft as well.

Yep, 2006 draft was really a flop for Essendon.
