Wogi’s Weekly Wrap-Up Round 8

Welcome to round 8 of my weekly wrap-up. This week was carnage all round. High scores and injuries will mean that many had an epic week and others struck disaster and then there will be those who just kind of floated along in between. Did you manage to survive and prosper or are you going down harder than the Titanic?

Backs

Top Gun

Brett Deledio 160DT/153SC – Deledio you star! Deledio was dreamlike at the Dreamtime at the G event, seemingly on the end of every handball and kick all night long. It’s probably being hard on him to suggest that his woeful kicking at goal was a major reason they lost, given everything else he did, but his kicking at goal has to be better for such a highly skilled player. Still, the man who has owned this award all year put up one of the best efforts ever from a defender. An honourable mention to Beau Waters who has firmly played himself out of the midprice category and was awesome as well.

Midprice Madness

Daniel Merrett 149DT/177SC – It really couldn’t be anyone else now could it? The man did kick 7 goals and absolutely dominate the Giants, who have been really good against the key position forwards prior to this week. The Big Sauce had 5 goals and was on an awesome 69/67 points at quarter time!

New Kid on the Block

Sam Darley 64DT/82SC – Darley was excellent for the Giants, who were as poor as they’ve been all year as a team. He was composed with the ball and made good decisions and was sound in one on one contests. He really warranted the massive wraps on him in the preseason. I will risk saying this again, having been wrong every time so far, but Darley would be insanely unlucky to not get game two under his belt next week.

Dudley Doo-Little

Dyson Heppell 62DT/63SC – This one was tough to give for all the right reasons this week. Adcock survived on the back of a ridiculously good SC score, Malceski surived because he cost less. In the end Heppell pretty much had to take this one as he failed to rack up the touches this week and as a result, the points! Was shown a bit more attention after his past couple of weeks and Heppell wasn’t great at handling it. On a positive… the SC scorers decided he deserved a positive DT:SC ratio on the back of probably his worst game in a month…

Trade Targets Week 7: Upgrade Season

Round 7 brought with it yet another week of incredibly high scoring. The big names in fantasy football were firing once more in round 7 and despite some underwhelming efforts from a number of key rookies; the scoring was high across the board with scores of 2200 causing some teams to drop. This will undoubtedly become the norm as teams begin to squeeze in extra premiums, which brings me to the main discourse for this weeks trade talk.

ARAP – Less successful than GWS

Yep, as the title suggests, I’ve gone and lost again. Winless after 5 matches in FFC Division Three, and in a week where almost everyone cashed in with huge scores, I managed only a minor improvement on the last few weeks. The positive is that I cracked 2000 for the first time since round 2, back when I was in the top 500 and thought this game was easy. The negative is that the par score of the round was still around 250 higher than my score, meaning I was never really in the hunt again this week.

Fringe Fellows: Round 8

After a big weekend of games, as always there will be a few changes for the upcoming round. We will have a look at who is likely to be missing as well as consider any possible debutants for the week ahead.
Highlights this week include a potential resting for Giants defender Tom Bugg as well as a couple of likely debuts for Alex Sexton of the Suns and top 5 pick Matthew Buntine.

Adelaide
The Crows may be forced to make a change to the side that thrashed Geelong after Taylor Walker was handed a two week suspension for his ‘sling’ tackle on defender Harry Taylor. Brad Symes (38 disposals, 1 goal) was the standout performer from the SANFL and utility Tom Lynch (24, 9 rebound 50s) wasn’t too far behind and may be the one to replace WalkerShaun McKernan has now served his suspension and becomes eligible for selection again, but is no certainty after the strong performance from former BomberJosh Jenkins.

Forced changes: Taylor Walker
Under pressure:
Possible inclusions: Tom Lynch

Wogi’s Weekly Wrap-Up Round 7

Welcome to the round 7 edition of my weekly wrap-up. Round 7 was a week of highs with the odd sputtering star bringing people down and some massive discrepancies in the rookie scores.

Backs

Top Gun

Heath Shaw 113DT/136SC – Heater repaid the faith shown by his beleaguered owners with a text book “bully” game from him. He capitalised on the hapless Lions on his way to a couple of nice scores. His bounce back has to be refreshing for his owners who stuck by him but of course comes at the cost of him now being ripe for the picking for those seeking a nice upgrade target. Of course the man has burned just about every fantasy player over the past 5 years, so those that want to jump on this rodeo ride may be fewer than his pure numbers would suggest.

Midprice Madness

Dylan Grimes 110DT/109SC – If I said a mid-priced Grimes would be here this year before round 1, who would have guessed Dylan? Excellent effort from Dylan who beat up on a hapless Sydney side who quite simply looked out classed and certainly were out muscled. Grimes was excellent all game. Of course he was on Everitt, who at this point might be challenging Sam Power for the dubious title of worst sibling in comparison to his brother, ever, that is just how worthless he was for Sydney, again.

New Kid on the Block

Stephen Morris 74DT/73SC – Who would have thought we’d have two Tigers and neither would be Deledio in the backs! The albino destroyed Lewis Jetta and brought him crashing back to the reality that has been the rest of his career up to the past month and got his own share of the ball in the process. Morris was quite simply excellent for Richmond and given some of the other rookie back scores this week also would have delighted those who played him!

Dudley Doo-Little

Jed Adcock 0DT/0SC – Corey Enright and Brandon Ellis can thank their lucky stars for escaping the shame this week but Mr Adcock punished his owners this week by deciding that he had an owie and couldn’t play, better yet he pulled it off with no warning and after dropping his price to a nice level that makes trading him a difficult proposition. He gets this over Ellis because quite frankly the main reason that so many people were even playing Ellis to eat his sub raped disgrace of a score was because Adcock had the aforementioned owie. Toughen up princess.

Trade Targets: Week 6

Forgive me for starting this week’s blog somewhat nostalgically but watching the games unfold over the weekend I couldn’t help but to think back a few seasons. Remember the good old days when 2000 was a score you could boast about to your mates? When a 100 in the forward or backline was practically a god send? How drastically the times have changed! Round 6 presented to us another one of those crazily high scoring rounds which are becoming all the more commonplace in the modern game, with scores of 2100 not even enough to move some people up in the rankings. It does lead me to wonder just how big these scores are potentially going to be by the time we fill our 22’s with premiums! Anyway I digress; onto the issues of the week!

ARAP – Small Steps

SCORE: 1,941

ROUND 6 RANKING: 97,288

OVERALL RANKING: 38,820

Another week, another loss, and another crucial wrong decision that has cost me the points. We’re now four rounds into the head to head Dream Team season, and I’ve found myself winless and sitting dead last in FFC Division Three. Although this week was far less torturous than the last couple, it was still disappointing given how easily a loss could have been avoided. But more on that later…

Fringe Fellows: Round 7

Welcome to another week of Fringe Fellows. As normal, we will consider the possible changes at each club, looking at potential cash cows that could be on the horizon as well as current rookies whose spell in the AFL team may be drawing to an end; as well of course, as the stars that are returning or are in danger of missing.
Highlights this week include the likely return of several big names such as Joel Selwood and Aaron Sandilands as well as a couple of potential debuts like Adelaide’s Josh Jenkins.

Adelaide
Unlikely to be many changes at the Crows this week after the win against the Swans. At Sturt Brodie Martin (27 disposals, 3 goals) had a stellar game on his return to the SANFL while ruckman Josh Jenkins (14, 17 HOs, 4 goals) could be close to a debut following a great performance after he was named an emergency for round 6, Shaun McKernan’s one game ban possibly paves the way for his first game to occur. Defender Sam Shaw remains close to the team after being rested for the weekend’s SANFL game.

Forced changes: Shaun McKernan
Under pressure: Jarryd Lyons
Possible inclusions: Josh Jenkins

Wogi’s Weekly Wrap-Up Round 6

Welcome to round 6 of my weekly wrap-up! A high scoring week as the premium forwards got going, a few mids went ballistic and the backs and rucks continued to cause hair loss and the injuries midweek to stars caused many a restless night.

Backs

Top Gun

Brett Deledio 107DT/143SC – Deledio continues his dominance on this spot and had few competitors. Heppell would have won it but was a very unlucky victim of the “intricacies” of the SC scoring system. Deledio was again in the midfield and again getting on the end of plenty of kicks. I suggest enjoying him as a defender while it lasts because he looks to be no chance of staying a defender next season!

Midprice Madness

Shannon Hurn 111DT/127SC – Shannon was everywhere against the Roos, even kicking a couple of goals on his way to a couple of very nice scores. The Eagles seemed to make a genuine effort to force the ball into Hurn’s hands at every chance and he didn’t let them down with his deadly footskills.

New Kid on the Block

Tim Mohr 72DT/91SC – Big Homer stepped back into the side and picked up where he left off managing to beat Buggy this week who did a pretty good job of junking it up himself after a slow start! Mohr even got goal hungry, unfortunately biting off more than he could chew as the big eyes lit up! A great effort for those who have him.

Dudley Doo-Little

Paul Duffield 38DT/55SC – Duffield was a pretty popular trade target this week and he rewarded those who took him with a big harsh slap in the face. Essentially he went missing, not something he was alone in for Fremantle. Duffield was awful, not running hard or working to space and just generally not impacting the game, meaning that the price he was at last week basically didn’t move!

Trade Targets, Week 5: Who do you believe?

They say that time flies when you are having fun, and that has certainly been the case with football in 2012. It seems like only yesterday that it was all kicking off again as we scrambled madly to perfect our fantasy sides before lockout. Yet here we sit, getting close to a quarter of a way into the season, a period of time where the game ordinarily goes into somewhat of a holding pattern whilst we wait for our rookie players to mature and downgrade options to present themselves to us.
